Were recruiting two Defendant Paralegals to join AXAs in house Legal Services Unit (LSU) here in AXA Retail.

LSU is AXAs inhouse legal department. Its responsible for managing litigated claims on behalf of AXA and its policyholders. In this role youll be managing a litigated portfolio of approximately 100 motor claims that have been brought against AXA/and or its policyholders.

At AXA we work smart empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them their team and our customers. Youll work at least 40 of your week away from home moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at our Gloucester office visiting clients or attending industry events. Were also happy to consider flexible working arrangements which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

What youll be doing:

  • Handling a portfolio of litigated files of claims brought against our Motor policyholders defending all proceedings to a highquality standard.
  • Negotiating bent metal claims whilst keeping indemnity spend and lifecycles to a minimum.
  • Coordinating/preparing statements and briefing counsel.
  • Provide commercially focused legal advice.
  • Making an appropriate contribution to department e.g. knowledge sharing training etc.
  • Complying with the required standards for internal procedures.

What youll bring:

  • Law degree and/or Litigation experience is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of the Road Traffic Act Civil Procedure rules Hire/Credit Hire and strong knowledge of the Courts procedures.
  • Ability to operate with a high level of selfsufficiency combined with an awareness of the boundaries of own competence/authority.
  • Team oriented with an experience of and a willingness to mentor coach and supervise less experienced members of teams.
  • Confident communicator with an ability to develop relationships and influence at all levels.
  • Strong organisation skills to ensure a pragmatic and methodical approach to handling a variety of claims simultaneously through an IT case management system.
  • Courage to challenge the norm and share alternative solutions interrogative interviewing techniques and witness statement taking.
  • Ability to handle a complex and constantly changing workload and to work under pressure whilst maintaining the required quality.

As a precondition of employment for this role you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to preemployment screening checks the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
