Job Description

Marion County requires onsite work. Remote work is not available.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Carries out the daytoday operations of juvenile offender programs involving the community.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the supervision of the Alternative Programs Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor who assigns work and reviews for conformance to established standards and statutes.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class. May oversee and direct the duties of a juvenile relief staff work study practicum and voluntary positions.

Typical Duties Duties include but are not limited to the following

SUPERVISION

  • Responsible for safety and security of juveniles at work sites. Supervise and train youth in a variety of labor oriented community based or vocational task.
  • Assure unit policies and procedures are followed by staff and juveniles.
  • Communicate with the public other agencies juveniles families customers and coworkers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Work a variety of hours and on weekends.
  • Function as field supervisor for practicum students and volunteers in absence of Worker3 position.
  • Provide monthly reports on current juveniles. Facilitate staffings between probation officers parents and juveniles. Provide termination reports on former juvenile clients.
  • Provides services and programs to juveniles in compliance with department vision goals and objectives.
  • Provides orientation services for incoming juveniles to support and ensure their ability to understand expectations.
  • Provides guidance of daily routines and activities including food service and housekeeping.
  • Engages youth and facilitates evidencebased groups organized activities and identifies opportunities to increase prosocial skills and abilities.
  • Provides appropriate cognitive and behavioral interventions with juveniles who may be acting out distraught angry confused depressed mentally ill and/or uncooperative to deescalate behavior gain their confidence and cooperation.
  • Redirects behavior of juveniles using role modeling facilitating problem solving reminders of expectations cognitive interventions and coaching. Communicates and provides appropriate interventions for potential developmental disabilities mental health crises and medical and/or emotional needs.
  • Operate and clean specialized food and beverage equipment and utensils.
  • Reviewed and signed the Juvenile Departments Code of Ethics.
  • Shop pick up supplies maintain inventory stock shelves.
  • Trains and instructs youth in proper methods of cooking baking meat cutting vegetable preparation and use of equipment.
  • Conducts and instructs youth to assist in inventory of stock equipment receives and stores stock maintains supplies in kitchen ensures the proper storage of food.
  • Maintains and /or monitors sanitary standards checks cleanliness of area.
  • Inspects all checks money credit debit cards etc. To confirm the customer identity and payment. Balances daily transactions and verifies cash totals Issues receipts. Secures daily receipts.
  • Develop and maintain inventory merchandize and prepare marketing and advertising displays.
  • Operate a variety of business machines including but not limited to a calculator weight scale cash register credit/debit card terminal.
  • Assist customers with purchases

SAFETY AND SECURITY

  • Maintains the safety and security of the facility including keys tools and equipment control; reports any improperly functioning equipment and needed repairs.
  • Performs searches of juvenile and/or property; contraband or other nonallowed program items; monitors use of cleaning supplies and keeps supplies secured when not in use.
  • When nonphysical interventions or deescalation have been unsuccessful manages specialized behavior problems with outofcontrol juveniles by utilizing physical intervention and restraint techniques to prevent harm to the juvenile or others in accordance with policy training and program certification.
  • Responds when First Aid is needed and to medical emergencies. Complies with Universal Precautions.
ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Prepares paperwork and documentation required by policy and procedure.
  • Documents individual juveniles behavior and performance as observed by daily supervision methods including evaluating and rating behaviors; writing behavior/incident reports; documenting individual skills training and skill reinforcement; maintaining rosters; completing shift documentation and/or records; exhibiting clear communication both verbally and in writing; maintaining confidentiality.
  • Responds to emails voicemails and memos in a timely manner; establishes and maintains positive and professional working relationships with coworkers customers and other agencies by maintaining regular and punctual work attendance.
  • Complies with training requirements.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certifications.
  • Dispenses medications as directed by nurse.

EXPECTATION

  • Responsible to uphold the values goals and principles of the Prison Elimination Act (PREA).
  • Operates program equipment necessary to perform job duties such as computers telephones copiers fax machine breathalyzer urinalysis kits kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Attends regular staff and department meetings participates in committee work as assigned by supervisor.
  • Adjusts to new or changing situations. Implements the department initiatives to achieve overall department goals.
  • Trains new staff volunteers and practicum students.
  • Reviews signs and upholds the Juvenile Departments Code of Ethics.
  • Minor maintenance of tools and equipment communicating maintenance and technology concerns.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

  • Operate equipment necessary (chainsaws power equipment hand tools etc. to perform contract work efficiently; assure that all contract terms are met
  • Transport equipment and juveniles to and from remote work sites in a variety of vehicles (automatic and 2wheel and allwheel drive).
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements for the Position

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  1. Two years of college coursework in social sciences business management forestry horticulture or closely related field; AND
  2. Two years of experience dealing with juveniles preferably with some experience in a juvenile offender program; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of work education training or experience relevant to the position as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess or obtain within 60 days of hire a Basic First Aid and CPR Certification and food handlers card.
  • The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check including finger printing; however conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
  • Must possess a current drivers license in the applicants state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.   • This is a fulltime position which is eligible for overtime.
  • Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday depending upon the needs of the department and program.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of juvenile offender behavior; practical human relations; housekeeping procedures and minor equipment maintenance; and landscaping and/or forest related practices. Working knowledge of evidencebased practices with juveniles.

Skills and abilities to train juveniles in outdoor work settings and demonstrate the use of effective communication skill in a juvenile setting; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain records; work independently; work effectively with other agencies employees and the public; basic computer skill ability; operate a motor vehicle; and work on a flexible schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; sees using depth perception; able to perform take downs restraining of clients; stands; sits; moves about the work area; bends forward; stoops; climbs stairs; crawls; reaches overhead; lifts up to 35 lbs.; pushes/pulls and moves carts weighing up to 75 lbs.; carries up to 25 lbs. up to 50 feet; perform twisting with 25 lb. objects; operates a keyboard; uses rapid mental/eye/hand coordination; speaks clearly and audibly; reads a 12 pt. font; distinguishes colors; hears a normal and whispered level of speech; hears radio communications sirens and loud speakers; works in all weather conditions including heat cold humidity dust smoke; works with noise and vibration; wet and uneven areas; climbs ladders; exposure to chemicals; high risk of exposure to OSHA Blood/Body Fluid (BBF) exposure..


PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program fulltime employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
