Description

The Manager of Practice Communications will support Mayo Clinic by developing and executing strategic communication plans that align with Mayo Clinics Bold. Forward. strategy under the clinical practice shield. This role will focus on promoting the departments transformative Mayo model of care for serious and complex conditions enhancing internal and external communication and fostering collaboration among clinicians scientists staff and external partners. The successful candidate should bring innovative thinking to achieve ambitious goals and stay ahead of new and novel developments in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans to enhance Mayo Clinics reputation as a Category of One for serious and complex care among consumer physician and academic audiences.
  • Promote Practice priorities and transformative initiatives through a wide variety of written multimedia and visual content across various communication channels in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including physicians clinicians and allied health professionals.
  • Effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences including researchers clinicians staff patients and the general public.
  • Generate and manage content for digital and social media platforms to enhance online presence and visibility in the scientific and academic medical communities.
  • Leverage data and analytics to measure the impact of communication efforts and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Produce clear wellwritten grammatically correct and factually accurate copy and content.
  • Partner with Media Relations to coordinate Mayo Clinic experts for media interviews or generate timely content for distribution to media.

The department is responsible to build grow and protect Mayo Clinics reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services.

The manager understands Mayo Clinic business objectives and priorities and leads the development of strategies to support those objectives. The manager partners with other department leaders to execute operational goals prioritize work ensure effective and efficient operations maintain high standards for service excellence and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. Develops and maintains relationships with Mayo Clinic executive leadership staff and members of the local and national government and/or media to advance organizational awareness and achievements.

The manager is primarily responsible for the management of staff and/or programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees task forces and workgroups.



Qualifications

Requires a bachelors degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity simplifies messages and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies. Experience with a topranked academic medical center is preferred.

Must be a selfstarter with the ability to independently identify opportunities solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change embraces critical questioning innovation service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity and act without having the total picture. Adaptable or flexible. Demonstrated professionalism and ethics with ability to earn credibility through integrity and transparency. Role models service excellence. Motivates others by being present engaged attentive invites diverse perspectives demonstrates and inspires a collaborative spirit.

Demonstration of strong management skills including strategy and visioning change management resource management and sound judgment are required. Demonstrated use of management principles of delegation organization and to maximize the value of projects and initiatives is also essential. Excellent interpersonal skills to include presentation negotiation persuasion team facilitation constructive feedback and written communications skills are required. Superior project management experience knowledge and skills must be demonstrated. Incumbent must have the ability to independently manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities. Demonstrates interest in continuous learning and professional development in addition to functional area expertise.
