Position Summary
The Student Assistant Climbing Wall Instructor supports quality sustainment and growth of climbing wall program through instruction and development of patrons climbing abilities. Under the supervision of the Recreation Programs Coordinator and/or Assistant Director indoor climbing instructors create fun innovative and safe lesson plans to teach a variety of climbing skill levels. Essential Functions
Ability to demonstrate explain correct and supervise practice of climbing concepts. Ability to exemplify essential qualities of a good instructor; that is professionalism patience active listening organization communication skills leadership preparation and significant knowledge in area of instruction. Ability to maintain boundaries and foster an environment conducive to learning. Reliability responsibility and a professional demeanor are essential in this position. Ability to correctly tie climbing knots and check for safety and usage. Ability to work at heights while checking climbing holds and wall durability. Ability to communicate effectively and interact in an appropriate manner with diverse populations University Community and the public. Ability to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills. Ability to use sound judgment in decisionmaking and personal interactions. Ability to obtain and maintain a Climbing Instructor Certification from the AMGA PCIA or CWA within six 6 months of employment in order to teach topics with inherent risks. Ability to obtain and/or provide proof of CPR / AED /First Aid certification with six 6 months of employment. Reliability responsibility and a professional demeanor are essential in this position. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Attendance and punctuality are essential in this position.
