Texas A&M UniversitySan Antonio (A&MSA) is a regional comprehensive university with over 8000 students (Fall 2024 enrolled in undergraduate programs and select graduate programs. It has transformed rapidly into a growing urban university during the past decade. Part of the statewide Texas A&M University System A&MSA is located on 694 acres in south San Antonio and serves a diverse student body offering academic programs that meet regional needs. Here is the link to the services provided by the university library: Executive Director Library and Special Collections reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for providing strong leadership to the Texas A&M UniversitySan Antonio Library Special Collections and Archives team. Provides leadership for departmental functions to include planning directing and evaluating departmental operations. Provides oversight of business activities strategic planning and development and program administration. Functions as Library liaison and representative on Academic Affairs and University committees as needed.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
Articulate the role of the library in meeting the changing needs and priorities of students faculty staff and community including the digital landscape.
Provide management development evaluation as well as recruitment of library personnel. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with university and System policies and applicable laws.
Foster strong relationships collaborate and support university stakeholders in the development of new programs curriculum and resources related to the library academic services.
Advocate for the library in institutional processes for planning budget development policy development and decision making.
Support and facilitate a culture of shared governance within the library.
Provide operational and administrative support to the Library Archives and Special Collections.
Develops long and shortterm planning of library collections services and spaces.
Develop long and shortterm goals strategic priorities and plans for the library.
Coordinates the development and implementation of library programs and services to meet the diverse needs of students and faculty. Coordinate services and collections that support academic programs delivered in a variety of methods and at a variety of onandoffsite venues.
Develop strong relationships with deans of colleges senior administration students faculty staff and community.
Analyze coordinate and administer departmental budget environments.
Coordinate facilities planning to maximize space utilization ensure compliance with governmental codes and provide optimal working and learning.
Develop implement and manage library resources.
Develop and implement strategic plans for the Library. Evaluate library programs and services regularly using outcomes to improve services.
Seek external funding and writing grant proposals for enhancing Library programs collections and facilities.
Report IPEDS and ACRL statistics and write accreditation reports.
Collaboration & Partnership Development
Encourage and secure support for library initiatives through grants partnerships community development and other means.
Represents the Library on campus locally and within statewide consortia. Conducts public relations programs to increase campus awareness and support of library programs and services.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Library Science.
Ten years of related experience in library environment including managerial experience.
Preferred Education & Experience:
Masters degree in Library Science.
Three years of experience in university library administration.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing spreadsheet and database applications.
Knowledge of electronic resources library technologies and automated library systems.
Knowledge of best practices in teaching research and service to support staff and students.
Diverse background with higher education libraries.
Demonstrated background within higher education libraries.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and academic leaders.
Knowledge of strategic planning and assessment of library programs operations and services.
Ability to communicate with constituents at all levels including students faculty and administration.
Experience working with and supporting a diverse nontraditional student population and the role of the library in providing access to technology and educational resources.
Knowledge of organization and management of personnel.
Strong communication interpersonal and presentation skills.
