Position Summary

The position is located within the department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. The successful applicant will assist in the planning designing and conducting of field measurements of methane and ammonia emissions from agricultural sources and associated industries; will provide coordination for the successful implementation of these measurement campaigns; and will assist with analysis of collected data. They may also assist with the preparation of greenhousegas lifecycle assessments to help set the overall context for this research effort. They will assist in preparing research reports and papers reviewing research literature selecting and recommending research data/information based on the research assignment. As appropriate they will represent the project in periodic meetings with collaborators on the larger NYSDEC/USDA Connects grant of which this project is one part including colleagues in other departments and programs at Cornell and staff of the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation and NY State Department of Agriculture & Markets. For the field campaigns they will coordinate the activities of a team that will include other employees and volunteers including those funded on related projects and may supervise one or more summer undergraduate assistants. They will ensure maintenance and calibration of a Picarro cavity ring down spectrometer for measuring methane in the field. They will oversee purchasing and procure nonroutine equipment and materials ensuring that materials and equipment inventories are adequate and maintaining and scheduling the general maintenance of equipment and inventory records. They will also help maintain a web site for this research and related efforts.
The successful applicant will adhere to all appropriate field and laboratory safety protocols. They will complete training on lab safety and proper handling of chemicals and equipment as required by CALS EHS and will implement appropriate field and laboratory safety and waste disposal protocols for compliance.
This is a fulltime position at 75 FTE and is a oneyear term appointment that is contingent upon available work funding and performance.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. We anticipate that the successful applicant will work remotely on average for 2 to 3 days per week and onsite on average for the other 2 to 3 days per week. The supervisor may require longer periods of onsite work as required to meet the needs for mounting fieldmeasurement campaigns or other timesensitive aspects of this research. The supervisor and the university reserve the right to modify suspend revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in environmental sciences or related field and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Prior experience in an environmental research setting.
Prior experience with preparing greenhousegas lifecycle assessments and with writing/editing scientific reports.
Appropriate appreciation for safety protocols for field and lab research.
Demonstrated ability to be resilient and perseverant in the face of challenging research conditions.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with faculty staff and students.
Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS drivers license and be cleared to drive for university business.
Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity equity access inclusion and wellbeing.
Experience in and demonstrated commitment to being part of a team effort.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with transport handling and safe use of compressed gases.
