Job Description

Title: Assistant Attorney General Consumer Credit Unit

Job Duties

This individual will analyze investigate and prosecute suspected violations of state and federal consumer lending statutes including statutes that address payday/shortterm loans motor vehicle title loans consumer finance loans mortgage loans mortgage servicing and foreclosure rescue services. In addition the individual will have responsibility for analyzing investigating and prosecuting violations of other state and federal consumer protection laws including the Virginia Consumer Protection Act. Must have excellent writing skills and be prepared to appear in the appropriate state or federal court in actions filed against alleged violators. Will work with representatives of the State Corporation Commission Bureau of Financial Institutions and federal consumer protection agencies on referred matters; periodically provide legal advice to the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs; assist in drafting official opinions; review proposed legislation; and work with counterparts in other states.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases; welldeveloped oral and written communication skills; and the ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials a diverse workforce and the general public.
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts concentrating on consumer credit or consumer protection matters.
  • Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
