About the Position
Reporting directly to the SVP Head of Other Property the VP Underwriter will be responsible for the production marketing and analysis of property insurance and reinsurance. Property insurance business is predominantly written through MGAs directly on our balance sheets. The property reinsurance business is written on our RenRe US balance sheet predominantly in quota share form. This individual will have a strong US Property Underwriting background with a focus on U.S. domiciled business with established broker and client relationships. They will be responsible for identifying and cultivating partnerships with MGAs treaty clients and broker relationships. This individual will be a thoughtleader and seek new opportunities to deploy RenaissanceRes expertise to solve critical issues impacting its clients.
The VP Underwriter US Other Property role will be expected to work collaboratively with partners and peers across our global footprint including Minneapolis New York London Bermuda and Zurich.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a profitable book of business. Handles daytoday underwriting and assists in the management of our MGA partnerships.
Build and manage client and MGA relationships. Through the audit process ensure robust monitoring and provide advice to clients regarding the management of the business.
Assist in recruiting and developing team members to support the growth of the business.
Share market insights with team members regarding market dynamics including opportunities and threats.
Maintain a high level of expertise and product knowledge to serve as a resource for clients and staff.
Identify design and drive marketing synergies by developing creative solutions to client problems.
Maximize use of RenRe risk and underwriting tools and analytics; enhances the risk management culture within the team.
Maintain ongoing selfdirected professional development and study.
May manage mentor train and develop analysts.
Candidate Qualifications:
A college or university degree required
Typically a minimum of 7 to 10 years experience in the (re)insurance business with deep knowledge of global insurance and reinsurance markets
Good understanding of E&S property lines and a thorough understanding of insurance policy forms terms and conditions
Has a deep understanding of catastrophe modeling reinsurance pricing schemes and the role and impact of actuarial finance and claims in the underwriting process
An ability to grasp actuarial concepts and interpret model results accurately
A reputation for managing effective relationships with clients and brokers
Exhibits effective analytical problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
Communicates effectively. Receptive to new ideas
Reacts effectively to changing conditions. Anticipates and constructively advances the need for positive change
