PS Lab Specialist

Job Summary
Responsible for collecting processing and shipping all research samples for clinical trials managed by Huntsman Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Office. The incumbent will be familiar with a variety of research laboratory concepts practices and procedures. Responsibilities
1. Obtains blood specimens by established venipuncture and capillary techniques; perform ECGs when necessary. 2. Follows procedures and work practices related to collection processing storage and shipment of research specimens as defined in lab manuals protocols and studyspecific reference materials. 3. Responsible for validation of SP requests and preparation of kits and other materials for specimen collections per standard lab practices. 4. Ensures specimen integrity through appropriate handling and accurate labeling of specimens related requisitions and documentation. 5. Responsible for primary trial assignments and related duties which include trial startup; indepth knowledge of trial requirements; maintenance of notes and study reference materials; and inventory management; able to take on more complex primary trial assignments and related duties when required. 6. Communicates & collaborates effectively with all groups within the CTO Sponsors and Clinic/Hospital Staff. 7. Able to work independently; demonstrates adequate problemsolving skills and awareness of available resources. 8. Manages time and workload efficiently and prioritizes workflow effectively; able to assess workload and delegates responsibilities to other team members when appropriate. 9. Adheres to safe laboratory practices while maintaining a clean and organized work space. 10. Create and update Standard Operating Procedures and Work Practice Documents. 11. Assist in the training/retraining of employees; mentoring and continuing education/certification for current employees. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing) walking standing sitting. Seldom: Bending reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Biology Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); two years fulltime laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations analyze results prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.
