Summary of the Role:

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing treating and preventing speech language and swallowing disorders in patients. They work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to improve patients communication abilities and articulate fluency.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and diagnose communication and swallowing disorders in patients
  • Develop treatment plans and maintain detailed records of progress and treatment outcomes
  • Provide individual or group therapy to patients
  • Train family members caregivers and other healthcare professionals on ways to support patients communication development and care
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans for patients
  • Design and provide augmentative and alternative communication devices to patients
  • Assess and treat patients with voice disorders
  • Develop and implement programs to prevent communication and swallowing disorders
  • Participate in interdisciplinary clinical teams and conduct research
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate medical records and documentation of patient care

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology
  • Current license to practice as a Speech Pathologist in Australia with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Ability to conduct thorough evaluations make accurate diagnoses and develop effective treatment plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with patients of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals
  • Strong critical thinking problemsolving and multitasking skills
  • Registration with the relevant professional body or association is essential
