The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Tax Manager FInancial Services R0146373
ROLE of the POSITION
The Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with applicable federal state local tax laws and regulations as well as State of Nevada and NSHE policies and procedures. This position will provide expertise and direction by supporting UNLV campus in oversight of tax reporting policy development and providing guidance on taxrelated matters across the institution. The tax managers responsibilities will include overseeing 1098T forms 1099 forms 990 forms unrelated business income and determining the classification of independent contractors versus employees along with other taxrelated duties.
The Tax Manager works collaboratively with internal stakeholders external auditors and regulatory agencies to minimize tax risks and optimize tax strategies. This position is primarily officebased with occasional travel to attend training or conferences. This role may require extended hours during peak reporting periods.
The Tax Manager is the primary point of contact for working with external regulatory agencies and tax advisors. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Financial Services and Controller.
PROFILE of the UNLV Office of the Controller
The Controllers Office plays a critical role in managing the financial operations of the university ensuring fiscal responsibility compliance and transparency. As part of the institutions finance division the office oversees key accounting functions financial reporting and internal controls to support the universitys mission and strategic objectives.
The Controllers Office is committed to maintaining the universitys financial integrity by providing accurate timely and transparent financial services. Through strong internal controls compliance with regulatory requirements and a customerserviceoriented approach we support students faculty staff and stakeholders in achieving institutional success.
Key responsibilities of the Universitys Controllers office include:
Financial Reporting and Compliance
General Accounting operations
Accounts payable and Student accounts receivable
Payroll and tax compliance
Internal controls and financial risk management
The Controllers Office collaborates with various departments including Human Resources Student Financial Services the Budget Office and external partners such as auditors donors and governmental agencies. By fostering transparency and efficiency the office plays a key role in the universitys financial health and operational excellence.
Dedicated to providing responsive and professional financial services the Controllers Office strives to support the university community by delivering innovative solutions enhancing financial processes and ensuring compliance with industry best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelors degree in accounting business finance or related fieldfrom an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and3 to 5 years experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
5 to 7 years experience.
Experience with tax laws and tax compliance.
Experience in higher education
CPA license
