Job Description

Title Associate Team Lead

Shift General

The Organization:

Sustainalytics a Morningstar company has been a leading independent provider of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) research for the last 25 years. Our insights are used by institutional investors globally to make better informed investment decisions engage with companies in relation to their business activities and drive change.

The Research Analyst will be part of Sustainalytics Quantitative Data Team (QDT) which operates within Sustainalytics ESG research department. The team is responsible for collecting ESG metrics. Clients use metrics data like carbon emissions water waste etc for reporting purposes.

The Role:

The Team Lead oversees the management of the daytoday activities for a 5analyst subteam that will be focused on a selected set of ESG data metrics. Typically the Team Lead works closely with his or her team of analysts and the Team Manager as well as with internal Sustainalytics stakeholders to ensure that all the agreedupon research commitments are met. The team leader is ultimately responsible for the subteams delivery of highquality and timely research that meets product and quality requirements. He or she will be accountable for ensuring and improving the performance productivity and efficiency of the subteam team.

The ideal candidate should preferably have experience in setting up new or improving research processes in successfully delivering research and has project management experience. The ability to work in a fastpaced international technical environment is critical. The ability to communicate clearly at all levels form strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively identify and manage risks is also essential in this role. The Research team will be part of the global Sustainalytics research department. Team Leads will report to the Manager located in Mumbai India.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead Research subteam of 5 data analysts by providing clear direction establishing SMART goals and optimizing resource allocation.

  • Lead effective research planning and ensuring timely delivery/review/sign off of ESG research meeting review requirements (e.g. quality levels).

  • Assist the Team Manager to identify and eliminate roadblocks by partnering with technology teams and other database teams.

  • Use LEAN Six Sigma tools and methodologies to optimize the research process and for assessing the root cause of issues

  • Ensure appropriate methods and techniques to improve and maintain the highest quality standards in the data collected by the team

  • Responsible for monthly performance analysis.

  • Acts as main point of contact for his or her entire team for all questions comments and concerns.

  • Provides coaching and training to team members as appropriate and according to the specific needs of the individuals and the group.

  • Identifies areas for improvement across the team and proactively takes steps to improve by arranging individual and group training sessions as appropriate.

  • Stimulates team members to enhance their understanding of relevant regulation that affects ESG metrics and to improve analyst guidance on related indicators

  • Sets goals and priorities for the individuals in the team in consultation with the Team Manager.

  • Effectively motivates and rewards the team insuring good overall morale.

  • Conducts performance reviews of each team member and explains/sets career development paths and opportunities for team members.

  • Leads hiring/onboarding of new ESG analysts to and ensure the development of the necessary technical skills and content expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in related discipline (business finance environment and/or social science);

  • At least five years of relevant work experience preferably in research environment with focus on industry / company research / data;

  • At least 12 years of experience leading teams of 5 people

  • Strong analytical skills entrepreneurial and problemsolving attitude; decisiveness.

  • Meticulous and attentive to detail;

  • Ability to effectively communicate with local and international teams;

  • Strong project management and skills.

  • Proven experience optimizing processes. affinity with text mining and / or artificial intelligence is a plus

  • Ability to work and adapt in a changing and innovative international environment;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Power BI and PowerPoint
