The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 1 located in Douglas!


What you will be doing:

The Administrative Assistant 1 is responsible for the daytoday administrative duties in Douglas supporting staff in the southeast region. It provides administrative support in personnel payroll recruitment procurement accounting and adapting internal processes to meet the Regions needs. There are no average days you must be able to adapt to shifting priorities quickly manage constant interruptions and collaborate with other administrative staff to ensure necessary tasks are completed.

You can expect a 37.5hour work week 11 paid holidays and personal leave accrual. The general office hours are 8:00am to 4:30 pm but there is flexibility in establishing your regular hours around core business hours.


The working conditions you can expect:

This position is located at 802 3rd St in Douglas Alaska referred to as the Douglas Island Building which offers beautiful channel views nearby walking trails and Savikko Park.

At the discretion of management and depending on the applicant telework opportunities are possible after successful completion of training onboarding and at least two months of employment. This position is being recruited for Douglas only and the selected applicant must be located in Juneau/Douglas. Employees on approved telework agreements will be expected to report to the office when necessary.


Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an individual with the following competencies/knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Skill in using computer software programs to maintain staff information such as word processing spreadsheet creation and maintenance and database maintenance as well as the ability to learn state and department proprietary computer systems.
  • Ability to comprehend interpret apply and explain policies and procedures bargaining contracts rules and instructions.
  • Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain organized with projects email management and trackers; thorough when performing work and display of a high level of effort and commitment towards performing work.
  • Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2 Accounting Clerk and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

OR
Six months of any combination of postsecondary education vocational education and/or advancedlevel clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of postsecondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.

Special Note:
Examples of advanced clerical experience include:

Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria rules regulations and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative paperwork according to regulations.
Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines and procedures. Examples of such tasks include time sheets appointment paperwork or required drug testing notifications for employees in positions requiring possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
