Job Description

Salary Range: $19.06 $22.88/hour

**APPLICANT MUST HAVE A VALID UNRESTRICTED INSURABLE DRIVERS LICENSE**

ESSENTIAL DUTIES FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with Health Promotion staff to implement cultural programs and events on traditional Navajo philosophy that encompasses the spiritual educational and preventive teachings to youth parents educators and the general public.
  • Develops instructional materials (i.e. power point presentation handouts flip charts etc. in accordance to Dine traditional teachings to increase community involvement and interest in health promotion project activities; and promote the Circle of Life model that demonstrates the importance of celebrating ones life; i.e. birth/childhood adolescent/puberty adulthood/marriage and old age.
  • Prepares schedules and presents educational sessions workshops or classes encompassing cultural teachings including but not limited to; rug/sash belt/basket weaving Dine language cultural identity traditional food preparation traditional healing herbs ke/clan system traditional hunting and gardening cradle boards and proper parent/child relationship enabling community members the opportunity to develop potential in the areas of personal social adjustment positive selfimage and family unity.
  • Coordinates cultural program activities with school counselors social workers and other human service workers the planning and scheduling of traditional presentations and makes appropriate referrals to western/traditional diagnostician for services as needed.
  • Provides technical expertise and consultation services to FDIHB staff and other service providers as needed on Din traditional hzh values. Participates in meetings and other FDIHB Committees for departmental quality management activities pertaining to Dine teachings and/or philosophy.
  • Promotes and actively participates in the development of Dine cultural programs classes or activities that meet
  • Provides cultural social recreation education and health needs of all community residents of the FDSU.
  • Networks with local colleges schools and tribal programs to research collect and review indigenous studies and application of Dine values to assist in establishing health promotion cultural education program goals and activities.
  • Assists in the conceptual design and of promotional themes and campaigns; coordinates and/or performs various public relation activities prepares speeches exhibits and press releases to publicize cultural programs.
  • Participates in the assessment and development of marketing project development and other programs to meet the community needs of FDSU service unit.
  • Evaluates cultural program progress and maintains appropriate records prepares reports and communicates with health promotion staff on goals and objectives.
  • Establishes partnerships with community groups educational organizations tribal or governmental agencies by attending meetings and serving on committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two 2 years of direct work experience.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSE)

FDIHB and its facilities are located within the Navajo Nation and in accordance with Navajo Nation law has implemented a Navajo/Indian Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this position and who are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation will be given primary preference in hiring and employment for this position and members of other federallyrecognized Indian tribes will be given secondary preference. Other candidates will be considered only after all candidates entitled to primary or secondary preference have been fully considered.
