Job Description
Overview
The VoIP Engineer plays a crucial role in the organization by designing implementing and maintaining Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications systems that facilitate efficient and clear voice communication over the internet. VoIP technology has become increasingly important in today s business landscape impacting both operational efficiency and customer interactions. As a key member of the IT team the VoIP Engineer will work closely with other IT specialists network engineers and telecommunication vendors to ensure seamless and secure communication channels. The successful candidate will bring a blend of technical skills and problemsolving abilities to ensure that our VoIP infrastructure is reliable scalable and capable of meeting the organizations growing communication needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement VoIP solutions tailored to organizational needs.
- Configure and maintain VoIP equipment including IP telephones and gateways.
- Monitor and optimize network traffic to ensure highquality voice calls.
- Collaborate with network engineering teams on integration projects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve VoIPrelated issues promptly.
- Conduct routine maintenance and upgrades of VoIP systems.
- Document VoIP network configurations and changes accurately.
- Develop and enforce VoIP security policies and best practices.
- Assist in evaluating new VoIP technologies and tools.
- Provide technical support and training to staff on VoIP operations.
- Implement Quality of Service (QoS) measures to optimize voice traffic.
- Conduct regular performance assessments of the VoIP infrastructure.
- Engage with vendors for support procurement and service level agreements.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning for VoIP systems.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to VoIP.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in VoIP engineering or telecommunications.
- Strong knowledge of VoIP protocols such as SIP RTP and H.323.
- Experience with VoIP administration and management tools.
- Familiarity with network design implementation and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of networking concepts like TCP/IP DNS and DHCP.
- Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls and routers.
- Certifications such as CCNA CCNP or equivalent preferred.
- Experience with VoIP service providers and cloudbased solutions.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Experience with current VoIP hardware and software solutions.
- Exposure to scripting or programming languages is a plus.
- Ability to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
