PRIMARY PURPOSE
Serves as an expert in the field of vascular access particularly in insertion of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and midlines. In addition to these responsibilities assists in education consultation and data collection.
Major Responsibilities
Inserts PICCs and Midlines at bedside using Vascular Positioning System (VPS).
Provides expertise and serves as a resource specialist for the assessment insertion routine care and education regarding vascular access devices with a focus on central lines PICCs and midlines.
Communicates with Multidisciplinary Team regarding patient care.
Prioritizes and performs procedures keeping tech worklist updated.
Provides education for patients family and staff.
Maintains policies and procedures data and records.
Orders appropriate supplies.
Cleans equipment and documents appropriately.
Adheres to general hospital standards to provide a cooperative work environment through effective communication skills interpersonal relationships and team building.
Seeks opportunities for education to increase knowledge and skills.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
Certification / License
Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina
BLS required
Vascular Access Board Certified (VABC) certification to be obtained after 2 years of job experience
Work Experience
Three years experience as an RN
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Attention to detail
Effective communication and documentation
Willingness to participate in quality initiatives and processes
Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care
Ability to work collaboratively
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Clean welllit comfortable climate
Possible exposure to infections and contagious diseases
Occasional exposure to patient illnesses
