Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED.
Completion of a Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)approved Teacher Assistant PreEmployment Training Program.
Passing score of 461 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment.
Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education.
Associate degree or higher.
Exceptions:
Employed as a teacher assistant before January 1 1999.
Certified as a teacher assistant in another state.
Possess an associate or bachelors degree with coursework or training consistent with teacher assistant program standards.

Pass state and federal background checks.
Responsibilities:
Assist classroom teachers with instructional support and classroom activities
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning
Support students with special needs following IEP accommodations and behavior plans
Supervise students in various settings (classroom hallway cafeteria playground field trips)
Help prepare learning materials and maintain a clean organized classroom environment
Foster a positive inclusive and respectful learning atmosphere
Assist students with personal or behavioral needs when necessary
Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all school interactions
Demonstrate dependability flexibility and a consistent commitment to student success
Attend required meetings and professional development sessions
Other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administrator
