Job Description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP Live Procurement & Field Services the BC Procurement Manager (Poultry) acts as a pivotal liaison between the hatchery producer marketing board and processor to ensure quality products are being procured. Position helps support scheduling of live haul trucking activity for BC. This role will also obtain information from the producers on quality updates weights barn conditions and overall quality of the poultry prior to it arriving at the plant. Upon shipping an analysis of the previous flock is conducted with the grower allowing for quality concerns that have been identified at the plant to be communicated to the producers to ensure that a combined effort is made to improve this raw supply. These improvements relate to managing the barn environment feed light water or kilos etc... The Procurement Manger (Poultry) will spend considerable time with producers and as such this position is also seen as a liaison between our company industry and producers.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accountable to procure quality poultry products that meet the Sofina live supply specifications by coordinating poult placement from the farm with the plant to meet plant requirements/ schedule.
  • Accountable to understand issues relating to nonconforming poultry and drive issues to a root cause and work on systemic corrective action and continuous improvement with the producer and field service to ensure high conformity to the plants processing needs.
  • Works in conjunction with Field Service Representatives vets and nutritionists to provide field information to management to ensure healthy usable product is being acquired and delivered.
  • Accountable to act as a pivotal liaison between the hatchery producer and processor working with industry and stakeholder groups (eg. marketing boards) to ensure quality products are being produced.
  • In collaboration with Live Operations promotes the benefit of having business with Sofina to all producers to actively acquire more live supply to meet Sofinas sales.

Requirements:

  • A B.Sc. (Ag) in Animal and Poultry Science or a related degree and/or minimum 2 years of relevant procurement or sales management experience and knowledge of processing operations equipment and procedures in a poultry environment
  • Excellent communication skills and accuracy of mathematic calculations is essential
  • Demonstrated analytical and decisionmaking skills sound judgment and the ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks
  • Proficient in word processing communications and spreadsheet applications
