Job Description

NMILC is seeking a Grant Accountant who performs contract and grant billing financial grant management and reporting staff and cost allocations daily accounting functions payroll staff allocations. The Grant Accountant is also responsible for assisting the Director of Finance with the month end closing process reconciliation the year end audit and any financial grant monitoring visits.

Supports the Director of Finance in ensuring that financial operations run smoothly and meet the needs expectations and deadlines of staff and funders that the fiscal and personnel policies are adhered to and works in collaboration with the Finance Director and team to improve financial systems to enhance organizational efficiency. The chosen candidate will be a person with great customer relations skills and organizational and record keeping skills. The ability to maintain confidentiality on finance and HR related matters and effective communication competencies is essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

Prepare invoicing for funders by due dates reconcile to the general ledger and enter invoices into Accounts Receivable system.

Manage and monitor financial compliance on all federal state county and city grants as well as nongovernment contracts and grants.

Allocate expenses to grantors and contractors as well as indirect costs track spending each payroll and maintain cumulative tracking sheets for grants and contracts and review allocations regularly in conjunction with grant monitoring

Maintain and update a grant/contract calendar of deadlines for invoicing and submitting budgets and applications and ensure deadlines are met for submission.

Develop budgets for new grant applications as well as budget revisions and financial grant reporting.

Initiate regular meetings with Grant and Compliance team on spend down.

Assist Director of Finance in preparation of any funding audits/monitoring visits and with year end audit.

Accounting: Payroll Accounts Payable Accounts Receivable and Cash Receipts

Accounting
Perform daily accounting functions of accounts payable cash receipts and accounts receivable
Assist the Director of Finance with month end close and journal entry preparation on an accrual basis.
Payroll
Provide backup payroll processing as needed for the Human Resource Manager.
Prepare payroll allocations benefit allocations and payroll accruals
Enter payroll and benefit journal entries
Month End Assistance:
Assist Director of Finance with month end close procedures and preparation of journal entries.
Prepare payroll allocations benefit allocations and payroll accruals
Enter payroll and benefit journal entries
Credit Card
Ensure timely completion of credit card reports and enter Credit Card Payments into Quickbooks by the 10th of the month to facilitate funding and invoicing and month end closing.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in nonprofit environment or bachelors degree in accounting or finance.

Must demonstrate strong knowledge of Excel and Word.

Intermediate experience with Quickbooks.

Proactive detailoriented approach and strong record keeping skills

Adheres to deadlines and 100 follow through (no balls dropped)

Strong priority setting and organizational skills; strong sense of urgency

Team player; works well in collaborative environment

Customer service oriented communication; highly responsive to inquiries

High ethical standards and understanding of confidentiality

Our Salary and Benefits

This is a fulltime position. Salary is competitive for our field and geographic area and is commensurate with experience. Salary range starting at $65520.

NMILC currently offers a generous benefits package including:

100 of Individual Employee Health Premium paid by NMILC for the Base Plan and 50 for dependents. Buyup Plan also available.
