The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to recruit a Medical Assistant (Part Time) who will assist physicians nurses and other medical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments maintaining medical records. Clinical duties may include such preparing treatment room for patient exams recording patient medical history chaperone and cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment.
The candidate will be responsible for but not limited to:
Escort patients to exam rooms interviews patients measure vital signs including weight blood
pressure pulse temperature and document all information in patients chart.
Ensure all related reports labs and information is filled out and available in patients medical
records prior to their appointments.
Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding
medical records; keeping patient information confidential.
Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations; Assist physician and physician assistant in
exam rooms.
Disinfects cleans treatment rooms following patient examinations.
Maintains safe secure healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and
procedures; complying with legal regulations.
Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies maintain instruments prepare
sterilization as required; Properly disposes of contaminated supplies.
Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician.
Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations.
Interviews patients to obtain their medical history; records patient medical history vital
statistics and test results in patient medical files.
Performs routine screening tests Pulmonary Function Test EKG and Vision.
Conducts the medical orientation.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications :
1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; or
2. Completion of the eleventh grade of high school and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience performing healthrelated or clerical duties; or
3. Education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have completed the eleventh grade of high school.
