Description

Mission: The Link works with youth and young families to overcome the impacts of poverty and social injustice. Our 23 programs provide supportive housing intensive case management services and skills development to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness sex trafficking and/or involvement in the juvenile justice system. The Link prides itself on its innovative youthcentered strengthsbased programming for youth and families as well as programs that are codesigned implemented and overseen by youth.


Position Specifics

  • Hiring Salary Range: $23.1326.00/hour based on qualifications
  • Job Type: FullTime NonExempt
  • Location: Minneapolis
  • Hours/Days: MonFri 9:005:00
  • Note: This position requires driving. To be able to drive on behalf of The Link candidates must have a valid drivers license have a safe and reliable vehicle be able to successfully clear a criminal and motor vehicle background check and maintain personal insurance at the levels of $100000 Bodily Injury/Per Person and $300000 Bodily Injury/Per Accident. Job offer is contingent on having these requirements.

BASIC FUNCTION


There are two primary functions of this position: Case management and youth advocacy. The goal is to assist atrisk youth to improve school attendance increase high school graduation and increase employment skills while addressing the broader needs of youth and families by helping them access their natural resiliency.


As a case manager this position serves as a liaison between youth and their schools families probation officers and other interested parties. Case management services are as follows: completing client/family intakes and needs assessment working with clients to develop short and long term goal plans monitoring compliance with court orders as well as accurate and timely reporting of clients progress to direct supervisor juvenile probation and funders.

As a youth advocate one works directly with the clients through oneonone interactions. Youth advocacy services involve relating with clients on a more personal basis.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Case Management and Youth Advocacy

  • Provides case management services to atrisk youth
  • Interviews and assesses clients to determine problems resource needs and other factors related to case planning referring them to community resources when necessary
  • Connects clients to community resources and activities
  • Supports youth in pursuing longterm education and career plans
  • Assists with employment training placement and job maintenance
  • Provides assistance and support to the families of youth in program
  • Connects parents to parent services and follows up to encourage participation
  • Provides probation and school support
  • Maintains consistent contact with all clients prioritizing those in need
  • Monitors school attendance and court order compliance
  • Provides necessary transportation according to availability
  • Connects clients to other Link services and volunteers

Programming

  • Develops programming to support youth in positive conflict resolution
  • Utilizes Link tools and resources to teach youth independent living skills
  • Facilitates groups activities and service projects for youth

Relationships

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with referring agencies community and government agencies community members and schools
  • Creates safe and supportive relationships with clients
  • Cooperates with representatives of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies

Reporting

  • Keeps updated records of all interactions with clients and any other contacts made on behalf of the clients
  • Reports to supervisors and probation officers in regard to clients progress
  • Provides ongoing monitoring and reporting of clients progress

Other

  • Assists in providing training mentoring direction and development of less experienced staff interns and volunteers
  • Participates in creating and implementing new marketing methods
  • Shares information and resources with coworkers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years experience working with juvenile justice involved youth or BA in related field
  • Experience in completing intake and assessments of client needs preferred
  • Experience in creating goal/treatment plans preferred
  • Experience in group facilitation preferred
  • Knowledge of the community resources and legal system particularly the juvenile justice system
  • Ability to work effectively with and relate to diverse populations
  • Experience with office equipment such as photocopier fax scanner etc
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Completion and satisfactory results of a preemployment criminal background and driving screening
  • Knowledge of a language spoken by Link clients preferred
  • Training in positive youth development harm reduction and/or trauma informed care
  • Extensive knowledge of issues related to comprehensive programming juvenile justice and court systems
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Valid Drivers License with access to a reliable vehicle
  • Life Experience and/or relevant education including social service or social work human services or other related degrees


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The employee is regularly required to talk or hear
  • The employee is frequently required to use manual dexterity for use of objects tools or controls as well as visual acuity
  • The employee is required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Requires ability to drive
  • This position generally works during normal business hours (MF 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but may require some flexibility including occasional hours outside of the normal work schedule.
