Job Title: Payroll Clerk (Temporary)

Job Type: Fulltime 12 Months per year 35 hours/week.

Location: Education Center Peterborough

Salary: $28.95 $32.16 (Pay Band 7MV3

Who We Are

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a worldclass education for approximately 35000 students in 87 schools. Spanning over 7000 square kilometers across diverse rural and urban communities in southeastern Ontario. The purpose of the Payroll Clerk position is to provide clerical services to the Payroll Team in generating and maintaining payroll and pension plan records for all employees.

Qualifications Required

Education & Experience:

  • Two 2 year diploma in Business Administration Human Resources or equivalent.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute.
  • One 1 to three 3 years recent experience in a computerized payroll environment.

Specialized Skills:

  • Excellent mathematical skills and advanced level computer skills in word processing; spreadsheets and databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive payroll and employee records.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to input data accurately within the strict timelines which exist in high output payroll environment.
  • Proven ability to effectively function as a team member.
  • Knowledge of the Boards K212 HR/Payroll system preferred.
  • A commitment to service excellence.


REPORTS TO: Team Leader Payroll Services

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Generates semimonthly biweekly and monthly payrolls (including processing and troubleshooting of time sheets) remitting and transmitting employee funds to appropriate financial institutions garnishee and/or family responsibility office.
  • Inputs payroll data into the computer checking and verifying input for accuracy validating salary entitlements/payroll reports including making necessary adjustments or informing other Human Resources personnel about required corrections.
  • Responds to payroll questions and inquiries from staff and external organizations; prepares employment confirmation documentation such as salary letters Records of Employment; generates endofcycle details and reports (T4s vacation pay annual pension reports.
  • Maintains pension plan information by processing enrollments change in status retirements terminations and leaves investigating and reconciling discrepancies and responding to employee and pension plan inquiries; prepares pension plan calculations for buybacks; enters employee information into IPPS database TPP and OMERS.
  • Ensures compliance with collective agreements e.g. Selffunded leaves Supplemental Employment Benefits plans topup payments for maternity/parental leaves vacation pay entitlement.
  • Updates general ledger accounts ensuring appropriate accounts are credited for budget reconciliation.
  • Maintains confidential payroll and employee related records.
  • Processes incoming mail by gathering sorting and separating data for processing.
  • Utilizes ATE for employee absence verification where overpayment may occur;
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Team Leader Payroll Services.


SUPERVISION:

This position does not supervise.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment; pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Frequent attention to details concentration visual exertion keyboarding and pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Some dealing with difficult people bending and distractions.
