What Youll Do

The Welding Engineer will be responsible for providing support to the Projects Engineering group existing facilities operations construction and maintenance activities. Project support includes participation in designs ranging from scope definition feasibility and conceptual studies and preliminary/detailed designs. The Welding Engineer writes welding requirements for procurement documents welding brazing and bonding procedures in compliance with applicable code requirements. The candidate also solves problems in designing and maintaining plant facilities and processes. The candidate will be responsible for training site personnel from engineering maintenance and construction on the welding requirements criteria and compliance documents applicable for performing work activities.

The Welding Engineer reviews design output documents for welding technical data for compliance with national codes and standards and company approved procedures and policies. The Welding Engineer evaluates bid proposals for technical compliance of welding submittals reviews vendor submittals and conducts vendor surveillances to ensure compliance to contractually specified welding requirements.

The Welding Engineer may be assigned field activities supporting onsite organizations including onsite subcontractors performing welding brazing bonding activities or nondestructive examination activities associated with welding brazing or bonding that falls within the scope of the Welding Program Manual. This includes review of onsite work packages involving welding to ensure that design output is complete and correct and has appropriate hold points.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • A trained welding professional with a B.S. degree with Welding Engineering/Welding Engineering Technology concentration from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program
  • The candidate must have extensive technical knowledge in respective national consensus codes and standards (AWS D1.1 ASME B31 and ASME Section IX Welding codes are particularly beneficial)
  • In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related science 2 years jobrelated and at least 1 year nuclear experience or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a welding engineer in a fabrication manufacturing or operating environment
  • Experience working as a welding engineer under a NQA1 quality system
  • American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector Certification
  • Ability to work in a project team environment
  • Ability to follow procedures and work within a rigorous work process
  • Ability to estimate plan and track progress for preparation of discipline deliverables
  • Good written and oral communications skills

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required candidate must complete a counterintelligencescope polygraph pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
