Disability Services Worker Full-Time - Overnight Awake Scheduling

The Program

Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of person in their communities through a variety of programs and services.

This program in Edmonton Alberta encourages persons with developmental disabilities to maximize their independence further develop their unique strengths and enjoy community integration through social recreational and community activities.

This program provides supports for two female adult clients with complex mental health and medical needs including Borderline Personality Disorder Seizure Disorder and Suicidal Ideation and Self Harm Tendencies.

The Position

The Disability Services Worker (DSW) assists personsserved with behavior supports leading up to bedtime during overnight hours and in the morning.

This is a complex needs behavior position as the individuals can be verbally and physically aggressive and requires mental health supports and interventions through out all shifts.

An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and noncomplex shifts.

One 1 permanent fulltime positions with the following available schedules:

Bona Fide Occupational Requirement: This is a genderspecific position based upon the behaviour and needs of the persons served. The successful applicant will be female.

In Your Role You Will

Support individuals with household chores life skills personal hygiene (if needed).
Provide supports as per the individuals care plan
Provide immediate support in crisis situations and use deescalation techniques to deal with behaviours
Administer medication first aid if/when necessary.
Use computer program to write objective daily reports and document notes & observations regarding the client

***Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

MUST HAVE 2 years experience working with individuals with significant mental health concerns aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
Ability to work well in an environment with potential for aggression/violence.
Diploma or Degree Disability Service Worker Social Work Special Education Health Care Aide Personal Support Worker or related field.
MUST HAVE Valid class 5 driver license (or GDL and 3 years Canadian driving experience) with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle.
Clear and current National Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
Current First Aid/CPR and NonViolent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI).
Training in Trauma Informed Practice Medication Administration Suicide Intervention Behaviour Management Conflict Resolution Food Safe.
Confident and able to function in a crisis.
