Job Description
Supports the Biological Sciences Undergraduate Office and departmental teaching program. Provides general firstcontact student advising and coordinates additional academic advising by academic advisors as needed. Schedules appointments for prospective students and parents. Prepares and maintains advisee/advisor lists for Biological Sciences and Microbiology majors. Completes course substitutions and clears students for graduation. Enters and edits timetable and teaching load information each fall/spring semester and winter/summer session. Prepares reports pertaining to departmental teaching and student data. Coordinates textbook orders and provides administrative support to Undergraduate Office personnel. Assists with event planning.
Required Qualifications
Experience in a professional environment; experience in office administration or program support; experience with personal computers and Microsoft Office products; evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills while working with a diverse clientele; demonstrated organizational skills; ability to set priorities and work independently and on multiple projects at once; ability to stay focused and work courteously and professionally with many interruptions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Navigate. Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System. Experience with the Virginia Tech timetable scheduling system. Experience with the Virginia Tech teaching load and student perception of teaching (SPOT) systems. Experience with Virginia Tech Student Systems and and Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS).
