Position
Renton Technical College is seeking a Swing Shift Custodial Supervisor! This position is responsible for the overall management and daytoday operations of the custodial department and the custodial services provided across the campus including the supervision of all custodial staff. The Custodial team provides students staff and the community with a safe and healthy educational environment. This position is a working supervisor role and in addition to custodial work performs responsible supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings offices classrooms building entrances and exterior walkways.
The Custodian Supervisor / Swing Shift position is represented by the AFT Classified Union. This is a fulltime classified and overtime eligible position that is a part of the Custodial team and reports to the Facilities & Grounds Services Director. The pay range for this position is $54457 $74701 annuallyand salary placement is based on applicable work experience. Additional information regarding the AFT Classified Union can be found online. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
- Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity diversity and inclusion.
- Communicate professionally and effectively both orally and in writing with college employees departments and outside agencies.
- Successful performance of own custodial responsibilities.
- Supervise the activities of custodians substitute custodians and student workers directly by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines.
- Ensure that custodial services meet the needs of the college by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences changing priorities and special custodial projects.
- Develop an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing all employees in the proper method and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance evaluating individual performances to meet established standards and providing required performance evaluations on custodial personnel.
- Conduct daily meetings with custodial staff disseminating information to custodians.
- Ensure that custodial personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed completing request form(s) for replacement items repairs to equiptment and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage area.
- Ensure that administrative records and reports regarding designated custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing and approving employees TLR or semi monthly time sheets and by monitoring employee absences.
- Maintain general cleanliness of interior and exterior of the facility.
- Perform boiler checks and maintain boiler logs.
- Report safety hazards and repair needs to appropriate personnel ensuring safe facilities.
- Strong knowledge of modern cleaning methods including methods of cleaning and preserving floors carpets furniture walls and fixtures; cleaning equipment tools materials and supplies used in custodial work.
- Support / perform duties as a designated essential / emergency personnel.
- Represent the custodial department in a positive professional courteous manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the public.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation racial ethnic religious linguistic gender age socioeconomic physical and learning abilities and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- At least three years of experience in custodial services which includes knowledge of cleaning procedures equipment and supplies is required. Candidates with custodial supervisory experience is preferred.
- Ability to communicate instructions to the team both verbally and inwriting must be able to train develop and build a positive team environment.
- Requires the ability to inspect the cleanliness of facilities and areas that may only be accessible by climbing ladders or stairs bending reaching on top of partitions cabinets bookcases and ledges moving furniture supplies or equipment.
- Must have general handson knowledge of both routine cleaning and related services.
- Possess solid problemsolving skills.
- Be selfmotivated adapt to frequently changing priorities and able to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments to meet deadlines.
- Ability to stand walk push pull bend crouch lift reach and stretch throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds climb a ladder to heights of 25 feet and be on feet for an 8hour shift.
- Current forklift operators certification preferred.
- Current Grade IV Boiler Operator license or higher upon hire OR must obtain the license within 180 days of hire date.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff the public and custodial team.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish Vietnamese Russian Somali and Chinese).
WORKING CONDITIONS:Working hours for this position will be swing shift: 3:30pm to 12:00am Monday to Friday. Work is physical in nature and is performed outdoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions as well as in an office environment which is adequately heated and ventilated. The Custodian Supervisor is part of the emergency team and is required to report to work when the college is closed due to emergencies.
