This role will balance directing the team and pitching in on the tasks assigned.While a CDL permit is required upon hire you must have Class A and endorsements / restrictions on your CDL within 5 months following your hire date.CDL Training for Iowa Department of Transportation employees is provided! Entry Level Driver Training is available if you do not already possess Class A and endorsements / restrictions on your CDL for positions that require it.Those eligible will receive both handson BehindtheWheel Range and Road training with webbased Theory training to fulfill required state and federal regulations.
Location:Jefferson Maintenance GarageWithin five 5 months employees are required to reside within 45 minutes driving time during normal conditions from assigned work location.
Shift:7:00 AM to 3:30 PMSunday through Friday. Hours may vary and are subject to be on call 24 hours a day during emergency and / or weather conditions. Some overnight travel may be required.
Youll lead and support the work of a great team dedicated to improving Iowa roads by:
works with supervisor and coordinates work for team
performing basic office administration via technical devices and software
hosting daily meetings with team
overseeing traffic control for Maintenance activities
coordinating snow operations and operating snow equipment
administering monthly safety huddles with team
supporting internal CDL training efforts
responding to emergency situations such as accident or emergency repair
Requirements:
May be required to obtain pesticide/herbicide certifications or other certifications as needed

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1 Graduation from high school GED or equivalency and experience equal to four years of fulltime work in highway maintenance equipment operation construction inspection field work in engineering survey or materials inspection and testing.
2 A total of four years of education and/or fulltime experience (as described in number one) where thirty semester hours of posthighschool education in highway maintenance equipment operation construction inspection field work in engineering survey or materials inspection and testing equals one year of fulltime experience.
3 Current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of fulltime work as a Highway Technician or Construction Technician.
4 Current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twentyfour months of fulltime work as a Highway Technician Associate.
