JobSummary A surgery technician providesassistance in the operating room. These individuals work under the supervisionof surgeons anesthesiologist and nurses. They care for patients during thesurgical /procedure. Surgery technicians can work in ambulatory (River ViewPavilion) or the hospital setting (Main OR). The surgery technician plansimplements evaluates patient care along with other team members. They accept responsibility for collaboration withcoworkers in the implementation of care. This position is responsible for providing optimum levels of care as the patient s transition through their stay. All the duties and standards within this job description will be performed according to the established policies and guidelines outlined in the department and Center policy and procedure manuals. These will be measured through surveys department goals peer input expectation and experience. Customer Relations While performing the above the employee will enhance positive relations with all customers including but not limited to: patients families hospital and medical staff. Team Member Relations and Qualityof Service This position will willingly shareknowledge with others promote and support new roles assist in staffing needsmaintain safe environment all to facilitate meeting organizational goals. Graduateof a surgical technician accredited program required. Attends inservices to maintain professionalstandards. Licensure & Certifications: CPRcertification. Certification (CST)required. EssentialJob Functions JobExpectations and Responsibilities: 4. Planning A. Prepare the operating/procedure room and surgical equipment. B. Demonstrates collaborative interdepartmental planning in identifying andmeeting patientfamily centered needs and awareness of the nursing care plan. C. Communicates with patient and practitioner through preoperativeplanning. 5. Implementation A. Provides care appropriate in a nonjudgmental nondiscriminatory mannerthat is sensitive to the needs of all ages preserving their autonomy dignityand rights. Identify age requirements (infant to geriatric) using clinical dataand patient needs. B. Passes tools to surgeons during an operation and helps control equipmentsuch as lights bovie or suction. C. Assist with safe transfer of the patient to the operating room table. D. Assists in positioning patient safely for the procedure to preventinjury or harm. E. Participates in the physicianled timeout. F. Initiates appropriate emergency procedures in collaboration with thephysician; including BLS. G. Ensures patient s rights are respected and protects patient privacy byadhering to HIPPA guidelines in the management of all patient information. 6. Evaluation A. Evaluates and assesses interventions and participates in thebriefing/debriefing process. B. Practices positive responses to job demands and changes throughorganization and time management. C. Facilitates safe and effective followup care through verbal hand offcommunication. 7. Other position responsibility A. Attends various unit division or committee meetings as designated bythe manager or clinical charge nurse. B. Assures equipment and supplies are readily available for patient carereporting malfunctions to proper department. C. Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently to enhance positiveoutcomes in patient care addresses unit needs and supports the Center smission. D. Participates in and fosters an approach to continuously improving qualitythrough Six Sigma methodology that includes both intradepartmental andinterdepartmental activities. Ensurespatient rights are respected and protects patient privacy by adhering to HIPPAguidelines in the management of all patient information. E. The candidate will successfully complete yearly competencies to secureand maintain the position. F. Employee will implement evaluate and revise annual selfdevelopmentgoals as outlined on previous Performance Appraisal. Physical Capacity Demand HeavyWork: Exerting 50 to 100pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess ofthose for Medium Work.
