About the Team
The Construction Safety Engineering unit performs engineering work related to site safety demolition excavation interior demolition and scaffold safety projects. This includes responding to incidents conducting construction failure investigations reviewing highrisk construction plans and providing technical engineering assistance to construction safety inspection units and District Attorneys offices.
NOTE: This summer internship is for up to 13 weeks starting from the first day of the internship and ending no later than September 5 2025. Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week in person.
Position Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of Deputy Directors the intern will:
Participate in occasional site visits with an engineer after proper training.
Conduct prior code building research and its application to new building construction or alteration with a concentration on 19th century buildings.
Assist in engineering review of excavation demolition scaffold and structural plans.
Assist in writing technical reports.
Perform hand and computer drafting of building floor plans and elevations
Be introduced to structural analysis for basic items.
Review plans in conjunction with Construction Safety Professional Engineers.
Provide graphic support for various presentations and internal documents.
Participate in administrative tasks.
Assist with the drafting of violations /summons and associated evidence packets.
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following areas:
Structural Engineering.
Construction Safety and Risk Management.
Building Code Compliance.
Excavation and Demolition Safety.
Scaffolding and Temporary Structures.
Historic Building Preservation and Engineering.
Major/ Field of Study
Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June August each year.
