Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

As a Health Safety & Environmental Specialist you will play a critical role in creating implementing and continuously improving health and safety programs within our manufacturing plant. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and functionally to the Director of Health Safety & Environment you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. This position is highly visible requiring an onthefloor presence.

WHEN YOU JOIN US YOU WILL:

Apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks throughout the facility

Implement and advise on hazard control programs for the plant.

Proactively apply internal and external safety standards to reduce hazards.

Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the plant.

Stay informed about legislative changes and recommend necessary actions.

Serve as a local subject matter expert supporting the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Conduct safety evaluations selfaudits and run site safety committees.

Lead instructorled training for EHS courses.

Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies and industry organizations.

Provide handson guidance to managers and supervisors regarding incident reporting and investigations to ensure company standards and processes are met.

Review incidents complete root cause analyses and drive corrective actions.

Maintain training records and facilitate safety training sessions.

Implement written EHS programs aligned with jurisdictional requirements.

Ensure monthly safety and environmental inspections are completed and recommend improvements.

Provide internal support for workers compensation cases. Facility safety contact for work comp claims questions interfaces with insurance adjusters medical professionals and injured workers

Manage the plants budget for health and safety spending

Facilitate new hire safety training during onboarding

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Bachelors degree in occupational health and safety from an accredited university or college.

Minimum of five years of health safety and environmental (HSE) experience in manufacturing or construction.

Excellent organizational and analytical skills to establish priorities and work effectively in a team.

Strong communication (written verbal presentation) and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) and SharePoint.

Technical writing skills for creating documents aimed at an adult learning audience.

Commitment to health safety and the environment.

Familiarity with safety and environmental legislation
