Dynamic Earth Solutions (DES) specializes in site planning spatial information and digital terrain modeling surface and subsurface investigations rock mechanics underground structures geotechnical laboratory services flood forecasting and water resource management through our geotechnical hydrotechnical and civil site development expertise.
Hatch is currently seeking aFluvial Geomorphologistto join our Dynamic Earth Solutions team. This search is an opportunity for a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist with more than eight years of demonstrated engineering experience to be part of our growing team and to broaden their skillset by working across our clients key projects.
Reporting to the Regional DES Hydrotechnical or Geotechnical Lead roles would vary slightly depending on final location. Generally however the successful candidate will provide specialist advice on geohazard assessments (including flooding and debris flows) stream realignments and rehabilitations erosion assessments and rehabilitations water conveyance designs and terrain rehabilitation projects associated with civil infrastructure mine closure and final landform development with fieldwork and reporting aspects of varying size and complexity.You will be an experienced fluvial geomorphologist candidate who will be able to multitask contribute to and prepare reports independently carry out field work and liaise the client. You will also be required to be client facing generating work for Hatch.
As the successful candidate you will:
- Conduct site investigations
- Develop remedial action plans
- Carry out hydrology and watercourse assessments.
- Identity geohazards related to fluvial processes and classify fluvial materials.
- Provide input to rehabilitation design projects as part of a larger team of Environmental Scientists Hydrotechnical Geotechnical and Civil Engineers
You bring to the role:
- Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline such as Earth Sciences including Hydrology and Geomorphology; Geological Engineering; or Environmental Science.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo. with any Canadian provincial/territorial association regulating the practice of Professional Engineering and Geoscience.
- Experience in assessment of geohazards related to riparian processes (i.e. debris flows streambank erosion scour assessment and flooding).
- Solid experience in a consultancy environment specifically) stream hydrology and morphology assessments and rehabilitation.
- Technically strong in site investigations and stream morphology assessment for the purpose of diversions restorations rehabilitations etc.
- Previous experience in channel design for restoration and/or stabilization
- Sediment erosion transport and fate analysis
Additional Complimentary Experience
- Ontario Conservation Authority Fluvial Geomorphology Assessments
- Spatial analysis (GIS LiDAR imagery)
- Experience in Aquatic Habitat or Fish Offsetting Designs / Plans
- Experience with projects situated in steep mountainous terrain (i.e. west coast of North America).
- Experience contributingtothe Provincial and/or Federal Environmental Assessment
