Job Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision this positionleads patrons in group fitness classes events and activitiesand/or private/semiprivate fitnesstrainingto help clients and class participants achieve their wellness goals.Classes/programs may includeaerobics Zumba cycling yoga Pilates strength/conditioning weight loss injury prevention etc. either in a group or private setting.

  • Providespreparesfor and updatesclass routines andtrainingcurriculum to meet relevant fitness trends; developsnew routinesintroduces newexercises.Ensures classes and trainings maintainsafe and proper exercise techniques.


  • Schedules client training sessions including communicating with clients if a session must be canceled or rescheduled.


  • Oversees and manages a safe environment for group fitness/private coaching participants. Executes the proper techniques of various fitness skills. Provides a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

  • Educates and informs participants of current trends and information on an ongoing basis throughout the duration of the class or session.


  • Attends all training workshops/seminars and meetingsestablishedby the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.


  • Answers questions and makes referrals to class participants in the areas of personal training specialty classesinjuriesoradditionaleducation.


  • Assistswithspecial eventsandparticipatesintheRecreation Center and/or FieldhouseannualMaintenanceweek.


  • Supports the Parker Recreation Center philosophies policiesproceduresand safety guidelines.


  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education experiencecertificationand/or licensure. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.


Requires a National Accredited Certification* in either personal training or group fitness.


*For two 2 or morecertifications to be considered they must be directly relevant to the type of coaching or class instruction the applicant will be providing on a regular basis. In example Zumba certification would not count for an applicant primarily working as a Personal Trainer.


Bachelors Degree in Exercise ScienceKinesiologyor a related field preferred.


Accredited Title such as CSCS CPSSCertified Exercise Physiologist etc. preferred.


Two 2 years of experience training or instructing classes preferred.


Employment Standards

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability.


  • Knowledge of relevant town state and federal laws regulations and policies.

  • Knowledge of municipal recreation principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of fitness concepts training approaches and training formats for more indepth specific coaching opportunities.

  • Knowledge of current fitness trends and research.

  • Knowledge of recreation center or fitness center equipment and facilities.

  • Skill in the training and supervision of patrons in a private coaching or group class setting.

  • Skill in verbal and written communication.

  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.

  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public in answering questions and handlingdifficult situations.

  • Ability to handle incidents and confrontations in a recreation facility.

  • Ability to provide a positive customer service attitude towards all patrons.

  • Ability tooperateand repair small/light equipment such as studio microphones or fitness studio equipment

  • Ability to teach on average three 3classes orten 10hours each week.

Tools & Equipment

Requires frequent useof fitness equipment includingstrength conditioningweight toning and cardiovascularmachines and equipment. Mayoccasionallyusefitness devices such as a body composition scanner resting metabolic rate machine and various fitnesssoftwareand general office equipment.


Physical Demands

Requires frequent standing walking sitting talking handling feeling or operating objects stooping kneeling crouching or crawling. Requires reaching with hands and arms climbing and balancing.The employee isfrequentlyrequired to carry pull push orlift uptofifty 50pounds and occasionally carry pullpushor lift more thanone hundred100pounds withassistance.Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision.

Environment

Work isfrequentlyperformedin a climatecontrolledenvironmentbutthe employee maybe exposed to extreme cold/heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level in the work environment isusually highand may range from moderate to extreme with occasional vibrations.

Full pay range:$22.81/hr. $28.90hr.

Starting pay range: $24.20$25.68

Parttime and Seasonal Town of Parker employees have limited access to benefits which include; employee assistance program (EAP) one 1 hour of sick time accrued for every thirty 30 hours worked and employee plus one 1 other member in your household a membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Fieldhouse.
