Summary


This position is open until filled with a first review date scheduled forMonday March 17th.

Join the Medford Police Department as a Community Engagement Officer and make a difference!

As a Community Service Officer dedicated to Community Engagement youll coordinate and provide direction to our volunteer staff acting as the pivotal link between the police department and groups like Neighborhood Watch.

This role is dynamic and highly visible to the community assisting with city sponsored events and the organization and planning of Medford Police Department outreach events. Youll be involved in public speaking educating the community on policerelated issues and building strong relationships with various community partners. In addition youll respond to complaints and facilitate problemsolving techniques on safety and livability related issues making a significant impact in enhancing community life.


Minimum qualifications for this position include:
  1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
  2. Be 18 years of age by date of hire with no felony convictions; and
  3. Have a valid drivers license by date of hire; and
  4. Successfully passes a comprehensive background investigation.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and principles of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice System.
Available schedules:
  • Monday Friday 8 hours/day; or
  • 4 10 hour/days

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $28.34 (first step) to $29.77 or $31.25 (second or third step). Directly related experience and qualifications will be evaluated alongside others who perform work of comparable character as required by Pay Equity Law. Six steps are included in this salary range allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Potential Pay Differentials:
  • English/Spanish bilingual proficiency 4.5
  • College credits up to 10 for a bachelors degree

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position requires work that includes exposure to regular inside and outside noise and distractions lighting and HVAC systems in relation to temperature. This environment also includes interactions with the public contact with hot and cold temperatures and a large variety of potential health and safety exposures. This environment may also include interactions with the public including angry/hostile individuals.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to accomplish each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. These job functions include grasping feeling objects talking hearing seeing repetitive motions climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching crawling reaching standing pushing pulling carrying and lifting heavy items. Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired.

The employee will frequently be required to:

  • Sit walk or run on uneven terrain.
  • Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
  • See objects in a very low or bright or glaring light.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them and where they are coming from.
  • Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
  • Determine the distance between objects.
  • While looking forward see objects or movements that are off to the side.
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand as well as understand the speech of another person.
