Behavioral Health Outpatient Program
Job Title: Medical Assistant Outpatient

Job Summary:
Judson Center is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The Medical Assistant will work in the behavioral health program with support services and an interdisciplinary team and will perform clerical administrative and clinical job duties. The Medical Assistant will work under the direction of a Front Office Operations Manager and Medical Director. Patients are referred through MCCMH DHHS Medicaid and private insurance companies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical Assistant:
- Assist clients with medication related activities
- Assist psychiatric providers through completion of MAPS daily triaging phone calls completing/prepping medication refills administering and recording GeneSight testing
- Complete and follow up prior authorizations needed for medications
- Prepare clients for examinations record vital signs current complaints and pertinent history for clients
- Maintain client medical records
- Prepare client record information for physician referrals
- Order medical testing and make medical referrals to outside facilities as directed by psychiatric providers
- Type letters and memos on behalf of psychiatric providers
- Administer injections as prescribed by psychiatric provider
- Provide support to primary care services if needed
- Participate in staff team meetings
- Ensure client related paperwork including federal and state mandated forms client diagnostic records and progress notes are in the appropriate client file and electronic health record

Job Qualifications:
- Knowledge of characteristics and conditions experienced by adults adolescent and children with mental illness cooccurring diagnosis developmental disabilities and severe emotional disturbances helpful.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medication management and familiarity with the use effects and interactions with psychiatric medications helpful.
- Experience in coordinating patient care with all team members including using a person centered approach when working with patients.
- Experience coordinating doctors orders with pharmacies helpful.
- Demonstrated competency in computer skills using electronic health record and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to comply with all applicable licensing rules accreditation standards code of ethics insurance reimbursement rules and Judson Centers policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide culturally competent services that shows sensitivity to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Education Certificates Licenses Registrations:
- High School Diploma or GED required; some college medical assistant training or business courses preferred.
- CNA or CMA preferred but not required
- Two years experience working in clinic environment
- Valid Michigan Drivers License appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle.
Working Conditions:
- NonTraditional work hours in the office family homes and community
- Job travel utilizing personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement
- Working with consumers with a variety of behaviors including aggression
Physical requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk stand sit communicate verbally and in writing hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard. Close vision requirements due to computer work. Regular predictable attendance is required. The employee has the potential to encounter unpredictable and aggressive consumers. The position has mostly an inside work environment and occasional outside work with exposure to weather conditions.
