Job Summary


Manages Environmental Health & Safety programs across Atrium Health facilities;serves as primary technical resource and subject matter expert for facility leadershipand team members; coordinates organizational operational and construction activities
and programs and helps to ensure regulatory and organizational compliance; improvessafety and operational programs and teamwork within facilities and throughout the
organization.

Essential Functions
Manages safety programs and compliance for the Joint Commission OSHAEPA; federal state and local AHJs Occupational Health and SafetyEnvironmental Compliance Construction Safety and Operations activities tomaintain constant readiness for surveys and inspection; serves as a safety pointof contact during federal state local and organizational surveys and inspections.
Manages construction safety activities at multiple facilities; assess patient andteam member safety of projects and recommends infection control practices toensure safety during construction activities. Trains and orients contractors onsafety infection prevention logistics and operations prior to beginning work atfacilities.
Acts as firstresponder for incidents at facility; maintains constant oncallresponse readiness and serve in multiple roles during incident command eventsat facility and corporate levels.
Interfaces with administration and department leadership to risk assess anrational changes for patient team member and life safety concerns.
Creates and disseminates PCRA ICRA and ILSM documentation for projects atmultiple facilities. Acts as liaison between facility administration and constructionteam providing communication to both and to all team members at facilitiesimpacted by construction.
Develops and submits reports of Joint Commission DHSR CMS CARF CAPCLIA and/or mock survey assessment findings and recommendations andidentifies and implements corrective actions. Educates and provides correctiveactions for deficiencies identified during inspections and assessments
Inspects patient care and nonpatient care departments public spaces andsites to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
Develops implements and maintains documents policies procedures and riskassessments for safety programs standardizes reports programs andprocesses at the facility and corporate level.
Owns and manages the Environment of Care chapter at multiple facilities; ChairsEC committees maintains EC committee agendas and minutes communicatesupdates to EC members and facility team members provides oversightand develops management plans annual evaluate EC chapter and performsannual and routine proactive risk assessments of multiple facilities.
Manages and completes environmental tours CARF tours perform weeklyrounds of departments and grounds creates work orders and OSRs to addressopportunities and provides corrective actions.
Oversees proper handling documenting inspecting transportation of hazardouswaste and responds to hazardous material spill emergencies.
Works collaboratively with other service lines to accomplish initiatives impactingpatient care and team member safety.
Implements and oversees special projects as directed by Safety leaders andfacility administration teams.
Presents safety programs and updates/training to leadership physicians andteam members.
Responds to product recalls by coordinating facility response removal of recalledproducts disseminating education to team members and leadership andauditing the recall program on a yearly basis.
Supports facilities and team members regarding injury/illness prevention andcorrective actions working to lower injury rates and prevent future teammembers injuries by changing/modifying operational processes and spaces.

Physical Requirements
Works in an office environment approximately 30 of the time sitting standingwalking working with standard office equipment. Remaining 70 of time is spent inhealthcare facility or support services setting. Requires considerable walking and
standing while conducting surveys and training sessions. Must be able to carry up to 15pounds of materials and various types of equipment. Travel to other facilities in personalvehicle is required. Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. May be
subject to hazards (i.e. chemicals mechanical parts etc. and atmospheric conditions(i.e. fumes odors dusts mists etc.. Responsible for setting a strong example of safetyby working in a safe manner and utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) as
appropriate.

Education Experience and Certifications
Bachelors degree in safety management Safety Engineering Occupational Safety &Health Industrial Hygiene Environmental Management Risk Management or relatedrequired. 5 years experience as a Safety Professional required; preferablywithin the healthcare setting. Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)Healthcare Environmental Manager (HEM) Certified Hospital Safety Professional
(CHSP) preferred. Familiarity with The Joint Commission Environment of Care NFPA101 Life Safety Code NFPA 99 Healthcare Facilities Code EPA and OSHArequirements for General and Construction Industries required. Appropriatequalifications to read understand apply and communicate written and verbalinformation regarding handling and managing hazardous waste required.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates
the skills and competency appropriate to the ages culture developmental stages and
special needs of the patient population served.
