Job Description

Job Title:Summer Camp Residential AssistantDepartment:Lifelong Learning / Summer ProgramsStudent Employment Type:NonFederal WorkStudy GA (Hourly)Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and support providing excellent supervision for all QU Summer Participants living oncampus.
  • Help maintain safety for all participants and staff by ensuring all summer program rules policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Create and maintain an inclusive home environment for students and colleagues during the program.
  • Help organize and facilitate fun group recreational activities and games (e.g. sports art cooking games hiking etc.
  • Contact the Program Director Director of First Aid Public Safety and medical emergency services 911 as appropriate in the case of any medical or safety emergencies.
  • Serve as a positive role model and representative of Quinnipiac University.
  • Keep track of all student whereabouts including if students are off campus with authorized guardians.
  • Assist directors and staff with participant checkin checkout unpacking packing general cleanup of residences as well as regular room inspections daily.
  • Properly document anytime a participant is checkedin and checkedout by the appropriate custodial guardians.
  • Ensure all students are accounted for and in their rooms prior to curfew and out of bed ready for programming after morning wakeup.
  • Resolve various minor issues without supervision such as noise complaints general questions or issues.
  • Help provide or change out additional linens as necessary.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper use care and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to program director.
  • Work with summer staff to organize and lead a variety of small and large group organized activities.These activities should reflect participant interests and may include crafts hikes art sports games etc.
  • Know and understand all emergency procedures and safety guidelines associated with QU Summer Programs.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate participant and employee boundaries.
  • Maintain clean and organized spaces in and outside of the residences.
  • Assist in preparing houses and programming for the opening and closing of the inperson program.
  • Report for duty promptly as scheduled and complete assigned work shifts and responsibilities. Follow policies and procedures for rounding taking breaks time off and completing your timesheet.
  • Communicate with program leadership including health staff about student experiences and report any concerns or issues.
  • Document deficiencies in student adherence to conduct rules safety requirements or cleanliness standards and consult with or report to the program director when unable to quickly resolve issues or when student disciplinary measures may be warranted.
  • Adhere to the Minor protection Policy including maintaining participant privacy unless they are a possible risk of hurting themselves or others physically or emotionally at which point as a Mandated Reporter you must share this information with the Program Director.
  • Serve as a liaison to communicate with participants parents or guardians as requested by program leadership.
  • Attend and complete all required staff training and all staff meetings which are both remote and inperson.
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to live on campus during employment. Allowed offcampus only at times not scheduled to be onduty.
  • Residential Advisor (RA) and/or youth camp experience (preferred)
  • Current First Aid CPR/AED Certification (preferred)
  • Team player who works well with other staff and program leadership
  • Creative able to lead others in fun and engaging activities
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated responsibility dependability and good judgement
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding and have the ability to stay alert for long periods of time
  • Must be able to sit stand or maintain physical activity for extended periods
  • Be friendly and enthusiastic.
  • Must be resourceful and demonstrate excellent problemsolving skills
Hours of Position:
  • 35 hours per week.
  • $700 per week stipend paid according to QU stipend schedule.
  • Room and board included (single room accommodation & all meals). Room and board may be available during the months of June and August to bridge housing gaps between semesters at a reasonable fee.
  • Working on duty or oncall for 35 hours anytime 7 days a week between 4:30 PM to 9:00 pm and overnight until 8:30 AM daily.
  • Please note that this position will require a physical exam and background check at the time of offer and before employment.
