Job Description

Our client is a leading trading company based in Nigeria that specializes in the exportation of highquality cocoa beans and cashew. Due to expansion they are in need of Data Protection Officer.

JOB SUMMARY

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) ensures the company complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and other relevant regulations overseeing data privacy across all business units. This role involves advising management handling regulatory compliance and promoting a strong data protection culture.


JOB RESPONSIBLITES:

  • Develop implement and maintain a data privacy program aligned with the NDPA and other regulations.
  • Draft and update data protection policies procedures and training materials for companywide compliance.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for new projects technologies and business initiatives.
  • Deliver data protection training to employees.
  • Establish and manage data subject request processes (access rectification erasure).
  • Develop and implement a data breach response plan and manage incidents.
  • Review thirdparty contracts to ensure vendor compliance with data protection standards.
  • Act as the primary contact for the NDPC managing inquiries and regulatory interactions.
  • Advise management on privacy by design and integrate data protection into risk assessments.
  • Stay updated on global data protection laws and recommend improvements.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on compliance status and risks.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor s degree in Law IT or a related field (Master s or certifications like CIPP/E CIPM CIPT CISSP preferred).
  • 57 years experience in data protection privacy compliance and program management.
  • Strong knowledge of NDPA GDPR and related regulations.
  • Experience handling PIAs data breaches and regulatory interactions.
  • Understanding of IT systems cloud environments and Microsoft 365.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with web and application development is a plus.
  • Strong communication analytical and problemsolving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently influence stakeholders and handle multiple priorities.
  • High ethical standards and attention to detail.
