Position Description:

The IDEAL School of Manhattan is seeking a motivated responsible and inspirational Physical Education Teacher for a fulltime position starting August 2024.

All IDEAL teachers are charged with inspiring students in an inclusive and nurturing learning community to achieve personal and academic excellence. Physical Education is essential to IDEAL s philosophy which emphasizes holistic wellness. IDEAL teachers know their students as learners and as individuals and they inspire their students by setting a high bar for excellence while making the classroom fun and supporting all learners in achieving their goals.

The Physical Education Teacher will lead inclusive classes from across divisions. All IDEAL classes include both typically developing students and students with disabilities. As such the teacher should have demonstrable ability to implement successful instruction methods differentiate and implement modifications and accommodations to meet the needs of all students including general education students and students with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The ideal candidate for this position will exhibit the ability to:

• Instruct students in Grades K12 in a differentiated manner to improve physical fitness gross motor skills perceptual motor skills or sports and game achievement
  

• Modify activities for accessibility and incorporate adaptive equipment for students with physical and intellectual disabilities so that physical education instruction that meets desired goals of all students
  

• Establish and maintain standards of behavior to create safe orderly and effective environments for learning.
  

• Provide students positive feedback to encourage them and help them develop an appreciation for physical education.
  

• Nurture the teamwork and individual skills of all participants and ensuring ample opportunities for success for all students
  

• Collaborate with the the other physical education teacher coaches therapists and teachers to ensure all students are getting what they need
  

• With colleagues in the department communicate program needs to the Head of School and members of the administrative team
  

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Relevant Bachelor s degree required Masters degree preferred
  

• 24 years experience in teaching Physical Education
  

• Proven knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects.
  

• Proven ability to adapt teaching methods equipment and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests
  

• Ability to instruct students individually and in groups using teaching various teaching methods as appropriate to meet the needs of the student
  

• Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a teaching team
  

• Ability to confer with parents or guardians teachers therapists counselors and administrators to ensure physical fitness goals are being met
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Appreciation for the school s mission
  

• The ability to inspire coach and nurture students
  

• A strong understanding of school athletic programs
  

• Experience with students with disabilities
  

• Experience coaching team sports and supporting athletic initiatives at different levels
  

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and collaboration skills
  

• Master s degree in education physical education or a relevant field preferred
  

• Independent school experience preferred
