Job Description

Medical Coder: Translating Health Records into Codes

This is a detailed job description for a medical coder who assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes to patient records in various settings (ED ASC HAS OBS IP etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records and translate clinical information into medical codes (ICD10 HCPCS/CPT).
  • Analyze and maintain accuracy of coding systems.
  • Use electronic health records (Epic) to access patient data.
  • Identify principal diagnoses and procedures for proper reimbursement.
  • Research coding issues and stay updated on regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and work effectively with staff.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical coding
  • Associates Degree
  • RHIT RHIA or CCS Certified
  • Experience with EMR systems and medical terminology.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Youll ensure accurate coding of patient records for proper reimbursement and healthcare delivery.
