Head of Optometry

Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership for the Optometry department setting strategic goals and objectives in alignment with the universitys mission and vision.
2. Academic Excellence: Oversee the development and delivery of highquality academic programs in Optometry ensuring adherence to accreditation standards and promoting excellence in teaching research and clinical practice.
3. Curriculum Development: Lead the design review and enhancement of the Optometry curriculum to meet industry trends technological advancements and the evolving needs of students and stakeholders.
4. Faculty Management: Recruit develop and retain a diverse team of faculty members fostering a culture of innovation collaboration and continuous professional growth.
5. Student Success: Implement strategies to support student success and retention providing mentorship guidance and resources to enhance the learning experience and promote academic achievement.
6. Clinical Practice Oversight: Oversee the operation and management of clinical facilities and practices affiliated with the Optometry department ensuring the delivery of highquality patient care and services.
7. Research and Scholarship: Promote a culture of research and scholarship within the Optometry department supporting faculty and students in conducting innovative research projects and disseminating findings through publications and presentations.
8. Community Engagement: Foster partnerships and collaborations with external stakeholders including healthcare organizations industry partners and community agencies to enhance experiential learning opportunities research collaborations and outreach initiatives.
9. Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards relevant to Optometry education and clinical practice maintaining documentation and facilitating accreditation reviews as needed.
10. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets allocating resources effectively to support academic programs research activities and clinical operations.
11. Professional Development: Stay abreast of developments in the field of Optometry participating in professional organizations attending conferences and pursuing opportunities for professional development to enhance departmental effectiveness and expertise.
12. Collaborative Leadership: Collaborate with other departments schools and units within the university to promote interdisciplinary research education and clinical initiatives that advance the universitys mission and strategic priorities.

Requirements:
Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution; advanced degree (e.g. PhD) preferred.

Refraction Subjective and objective

Slit lamp examination

Low vision evaluation

Contact lens fitting

Binocular vision evaluation

Diagnostic department and instruments

Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administration preferably in a higher education setting.
Proven track record of excellence in teaching research and/or clinical practice in Optometry.
Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Ability to effectively lead and manage faculty staff and resources to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in education and clinical practice.
Familiarity with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements relevant to Optometry education and clinical practice.
