Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development: Develop and review the history curriculum ensuring alignment with educational standards historical scholarship and the needs of students. Integrate diverse perspectives and historical methodologies into course content.

  2. Instructional Leadership: Provide guidance and support to history faculty in instructional methods curriculum implementation and assessment practices. Foster a collaborative and innovative teaching environment.

  3. Faculty Management: Recruit hire and evaluate history faculty members. Provide mentorship professional development opportunities and ongoing support to ensure faculty members growth and success.

  4. Administrative Duties: Manage departmental budgets resources and facilities. Coordinate scheduling of history courses oversee student enrollment and address any administrative issues within the department.

  5. Student Support: Support student academic success by offering guidance counseling and academic advising. Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes critical thinking and historical inquiry.

  6. Research and Scholarship: Encourage and support faculty research and scholarly activities. Foster a culture of intellectual inquiry and historical scholarship within the department.

  7. Community Engagement: Foster partnerships with local historical societies museums and other community organizations. Organize events lectures and workshops to promote public engagement with history.

  8. Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and implement assessment measures to evaluate student learning outcomes and program effectiveness. Use datadriven approaches to make informed decisions about curriculum and instructional practices.

  9. Professional Development: Stay current with developments in the field of history educational best practices and pedagogical innovations. Participate in conferences workshops and professional organizations to enhance expertise and promote continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (typically a Ph.D.) in History or a related field.
  • Substantial teaching experience in history at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and administrative experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in education.
  • Active engagement in scholarly research and publication preferred.
