The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Arts Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) is recruiting for the Fall 2023 semester within the Art Foundation program. The program is specifically looking for an instructor to teach the following course: Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of adjunct vacancies from semester to semester. However, we invite qualified applicants who are willing to accept part-time teaching work on an as-needed basis to apply. Position Responsibilities: Kine 291 - Introduction to Digital Strategies: Course description Semester course; 1-4 variable hours. 1-4 credits. May be repeated for a maximum of eight credits. Note: The content of this course has been adjusted to fit the needs of FYI students at VCUQatar. This course covers basic digital techniques and software. It is designed to develop a student’s ability to think, perceive and create visual narratives using contemporary art and design digital practices. Course content will largely explore the relationship between the human body, experience and the physical environment through digital means. The duties of the adjunct instructor are: - Complete all required university training (i.e. FERPA) before the first class session; - Provide to the students in the first class session a course syllabus that includes an effective and appropriate course scope, structure, requirements, and evaluation method, as well as the relevant department and university policies that are provided by the department chair; - Enforce in a constructive manner upon the students all relevant department and university policies; - Prepare for all class sessions so that class time is used effectively toward the learning objectives of the course; - Complete assessment of all assignments and provide as feedback to the students in a timely manner; - Submit the midterm and final grades of the course according to the method and schedule provided by the university registrar. Required Qualifications: - A graduate degree in a field related to the course(s) one would teach. - Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. - Demonstrated enthusiasm towards teaching and interacting within a multicultural environment as an adjunct faculty member at VCUarts Qatar. - Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as an adjunct faculty member at VCUarts Qatar. Preferred Qualifications: - Appropriate teaching experience and/or strong oral presentation and communication skills. - Experience teaching studio courses in Qatar, the Arab Gulf, or the Middle East.
