Skills Required:
Plan and evaluate proposed field survey projects
Manage field survey teams
Prepare process and coordinate required field design survey work
Manage construction staking survey work
Conduct surveys related to public and private commercial residential and industrial development projects
Perform complex surveying calculations using software such as AutoCAD
Analyze raw data for mathematical closure and accuracy
Provide survey information for Geographic Information System (GIS)
Prepare various survey reports and documents

Daily Tasks:
Act as crew chief for a field survey crew
Engage in making plans and geodetic surveys for various projects (construction topographic rightofway and control survey projects)
Participate in presurvey planning meetings with project managers resident engineers and contractor representatives
Assign and monitor work for the survey crew
Provide input for crew evaluation
Serve as the senior field surveyor ensuring safety procedures and quality standards
Gather field survey data using conventional and GPS methods
Set up and operate surveying equipment (Electronic total station Data collector GPS equipment)
Prepare field notes drawings and reports
Perform field surveying tasks for different projects including roadway bridges and flood control
Install surveying construction stakes and establish control points
Tie out existing intersection ties
Locate or establish vertical and horizontal control points
Locate right of way monuments corners boundaries and property lines
3 years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief Proficiency in surveying equipment and software Strong analytical and communication skills Validdriver's license Desire and adaptability to work outside in different weather conditions and environments
