About the Role

The Payments and Innovation Manager will work as a senior policy advisor on all issues relating to European and international payments and associated regulatory engagement.

This person will work with and support Payments members to identify and manage activity on key regulatory and policy issues coordinating the outwardfacing liaison with international stakeholders (European Payments Council European Retail Payments Board European Banking Federation International Banking Federation Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructure) and feeding this back where appropriate to UK bodies including the FCA and HM Treasury.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the senior member committee the International Payments Engagement Policy Committee which acts as a nonbinding vehicle for strategic advice on the collaborative aspects of international payments and contributes towards the development of broader payments policy informing the work and role of the Payments Product and Services Board (PPSB).
  • Managing the European Payments Working Group to build positions on key European policy developments and identify where UK industry would benefit from aligning/diverging from European payments policy. Overseeing the UKs continued membership of SEPA through close coordination with members and the European Payments Council (EPC).
  • Working in partnership with members of the payments team across a broad range of strategic issues relevant to international payments.
  • Jointly managing relationships with trade associations in the EU and internationally for payments and personal banking including the European Banking Federation (EBF) European Payments Council (EPC) European Card Payment Association (ECPA) and International Banking Federation (IBFed).
  • Jointly managing relationship with key regulators across the payments and innovation agenda acting as a technical expert including with HM Treasury the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Payment Systems Regulator (PSR).
  • Engage closely with and support colleagues and groups working on crosscutting projects/workstreams on a number of issues across payments digital data economic crime and Brexit.
  • Provide members with relevant market and regulatory insights to inform their own business planning.
  • Responsibility for preparing consultation responses Committee and Board papers and communicating with senior level representatives internally and externally.
  • Modelling the visions and values of the company.


Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the European ecosystem and international public policy landscape.
  • Knowledge and experience of the payments sector demonstrating an understanding of:
    • the challenges faced by members in running their businesses including the needs of members customers and clients
    • the needs of regulators and authorities
    • the international dimension of payments and particularly how the UK engages with Europe in payments
  • Understanding of the wider payments landscape including card and interbank payments and where the key policy issues intersect internationally.
  • Capable of acting as a subject matter expert and credibly representing the company externally with speeches webinars conference panels Chatham House discussions and potentially the media.
  • Project management experience is desirable to ensure effective design and running of projects and workstreams including excellent management of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills together with the ability to effectively manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to identify commercial opportunities and work collaboratively to realise them.
