Maternal Fetal Deaths Prevention Coordinator Population Based

Purpose of Position/Summary:
This position serves as the Maternal and Fetal Fatality Prevention Coordinator within the Division of Fatality Review and Prevention (FRP) at the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH). The purpose of this position is to develop and support new and ongoing fatality prevention initiatives to reduce maternal and fetal mortality rates in Indiana. FRP has three components: 1. fatality review 2. data and 3. prevention and this position oversees efforts that fall under each with regard to preventing fatalities in infants and children. This position will focus on the development and implementation of maternal and fetal fatality prevention throughout the state. This position will work closely with state maternal mortality review teams and fetal infant mortality review teams to further implement recommendations.

This position will create fatality prevention materials that are focusing on the maternal and fetal populations. This position will collaborate with family resource centers to develop a network of partners and get involved with local community initiatives. This position will lead trainings and presentations focusing on fatality prevention on a wide range of topics. This position will search for and present at conferences nationwide.

Providing technical assistance training public speaking and meeting facilitation are also important requirements of this position. This position will also involve contract development monitoring of federal and state budgets annual report and strategic plan writing and creation of prevention education materials. This position contributes to the IDOH/Commission/Office/Division vision mission and objectives by facilitating the integration of public health and prevention activities to improve the health of Hoosiers.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Connect fatalities reviewed amongst the maternal mortality prevention coordinator and fetal infant mortality review coordinator within FRP creating recommendations and prevention strategies
Provide technical assistance to local community organizations and health departments
Develop evidencebased prevention initiatives based on state and local data
Develop evaluation protocols for prevention initiatives
Create education and awareness materials including brochures and other visual materials
Facilitate prevention meetings in local communities
Request state and local data from epidemiologists
Report local prevention initiatives to the State Maternal Mortality Review Team and Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Teams
Provide trainings on developing recommendations and turning data into action to local fatality review teams
Public speaking on prevention strategies and initiatives
Create tools for community engagement and empowerment
Present at state and national conferences
Develop external and internal partnerships
Provide prevention education resources to local partners; these resources include webinars inforgraphics brochures and other materials
Maintain contacts and maps for prevention coahilitions statewide
Develop innovative prevention strategies to target atrisk populations
Collaborate with injury prevention partners throughout the state
Apply for external funding to support prevention initiatives
Develop and maintain program policies and procedures
Coordinate day to day program activities
Generate reports including annual reports and strategic plans
Work with data entry staff to maintain accurate database of suicide and overdose deaths
Attend training to stay up to date on current literature and recommendations
Attend meetings with external partners
Identify new opportunities for partnerships
Provide technical assistance to teams on implementation and sustainability
Encourage cross collaboration to achieve state IDOH and FRP goals and objectives
Provide technical assistance on goal setting project planning and behavioral change theory
Research effective methods to prevent injuries and falities amongst materal and fetal populations
Research and address disparities in materal and fetal injuries and fatalities
Champion an equitydriven approach to program improvement
Respond to program requests from IDOH upper management
Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Difficulty of Work:
Employee must think critically and have the analytical ability to develop and enhance systems to acquire the best strategies for prevention. Employee must be able to work within program guidelines and within established time frames. Employee must be able to work well independently and know when to solicit advice/assistance from Director. Employee must be flexible and adaptable to policy changes and must be able to use sound judgment and decisionmaking ability in order to make appropriate recommendations.

This position requires significant attention to detail and the ability to work with internal and external partners. The incumbent must also be able to resolve problems logically develop ideas interpret policy and have superb oral and written skills.

This position requires travel to meetings statewide and for engagement work in communities.

Responsibility:
Incumbent has high level responsibility for ensuring compliance with state and federal grant requirements and adherence to IDOH and FRP goals and objectives. The position will serve as the program s liaison to community leaders physicians hospitals related family service providers and agencies as well as to civic groups advocates and consumers. This position will be responsible for facilitating community meetings and developing written reports grant proposals and other documentation pertaining to prevention programs.

This position reports to the Prevention Programs Director of the Fatality Review and Prevention Division. Employee will keep Director informed regarding matters that may impact the goals vision and mission of the program. Employee will receive some instruction from supervisor but independent judgment is critical to efficient daily operations. Employee must follow the program policies and procedures and manage their time to complete assignments within established timeframes. Employee will apply HIPAA policies where applicable and maintain confidentiality when communicating with program partners.

Personal Work Relationships:
Employee will interact in a professional manner with Director coworkers department staff and other agency and professional staff. Incumbent works with Division staff Community Action Team members and public state and federal representatives and other stakeholders in the public and private sector for the purpose of developing and monitoring effective development of prevention program activities.

Physical Effort:
Position is primarily a desk job; however statewide travel is required. Requires extensive computer use and ability to be mobile in small confined spaces. The incumbent must be able to lift and transport boxes and education materials.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a HIPAA covered limited access office environment that contains a constant and moderate level of background phone conversation. Incumbent must be able to concentrate under these conditions. Significant instate travel is required. Working directly with communities is required.
