SUMMARY: To control optimize and produce the quality of USALCO plant performance and product through process control in relationship to the blending processes. The assignment also requires that all federal and state regulations be followed during the work being performed in the facility. This position reports to the Production & Logistics Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties or special projects may be assigned.

The following is a representative but not an allinclusive list of activities performed by the Alum Operator.

  1. Follow all USALCO HS&E policies.
  2. Responsible for all processes involved with blending unit.
  3. Monitors raw material and finished product inventories and reports to management as necessary.
  4. Charges required amounts of raw materials as required by batch sheets.
  5. Follows batch sheets and records process data as required to make specification products.
  6. Collects sample of finished goods after completion for lab analysis.
  7. Conducts specific gravity analysis to monitor production status occasionally.
  8. Follow procedures to adjust the batch before pumping out to finished tank.
  9. Operates Filtration system to filter specific finished goods.
  10. Maintains levels of storage tanks at safe levels particularly during blending operation unloading of raw materials and pumping out batches of finished goods.
  11. Communicates batch status to oncoming shift.
  12. Facilitates the upkeep organization and maintenance of process equipment.
  13. Provides housekeeping around Blend Production/tank farm area as well as other areas of plant.
  14. Responsible for filtration of finished product in final tanks.
  15. Responsible for the initiation and documentation of all technical information which may directly or indirectly relate to blending. Included are the batch sheets raw material information tank levels specific gravity and the results of product analysis.
  16. Responsible for transfer of finished good/raw materials throughout blending production and storage systems.
  17. Responsible for using proper safety equipment making sure all safety equipment is in working order and if not promptly reporting any deficiencies to the production supervisor for immediate attention. Being in proper dress attire and always conducting themselves in a safe and proper manner at all times.
  18. Responsible for the startup and completion of any special duties or tasks that may arise during the operation as required by the Production &Logistics Supervisor or Plant Manager.
  19. Assist in plant wide cleanup efforts as needed.

Broad job knowledge is required to perform somewhat complex duties in an environment that is mostly hot and dusty. Considerable physical activity including moving about stairways and platforms lifting aluminum ingots working in difficult tight and uncomfortable places sweeping shoveling and some heavy lifting may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

QUALIFICATIONS: The assignment requires background in plant operations and a broad knowledge of all equipment and processes associated with producing Alum. Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: See Qualifications above.

  1. Move and operate hoses and piping (hoses less than 50 pounds)
  2. Bend and stoop to move and operate pumps and other equipment.
  3. Walking on hard concrete surface and gravel roadways
  4. Use of stairs is required to access production areas.
  5. Some periods of driving forklift as needed.
  6. Opening and closing of water and raw material lines and general valve operation.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All USALCO personnel are required to participate in all Corporate Safety Training Programs and any sitespecific safety training and policies.
