Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Strategic Planning:

    • Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategic plan for the Chemistry department in alignment with the institutions mission and goals.
    • Provide strong leadership to faculty and staff fostering a culture of collaboration innovation and excellence.
    • Set departmental goals and objectives establish priorities and develop strategies to achieve them.
  2. Academic Program Management:

    • Oversee the development implementation and assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs in Chemistry.
    • Ensure that curriculum content and instructional methods are uptodate relevant and meet accreditation standards.
    • Monitor and evaluate academic programs to maintain highquality standards and foster continuous improvement.
  3. Faculty and Staff Management:

    • Recruit hire mentor and evaluate faculty and staff members fostering professional development and a supportive work environment.
    • Assign teaching responsibilities research projects and administrative duties in accordance with departmental needs and individual strengths.
    • Promote diversity equity and inclusion within the department and support initiatives to enhance diversity among faculty staff and students.
  4. Research and Scholarship:

    • Encourage and support faculty research and scholarship activities including securing external funding publishing in peerreviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
    • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships with other departments institutions and industry partners.
    • Ensure compliance with ethical standards safety protocols and regulatory requirements in research activities.
  5. Student Engagement and Support:

    • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students promoting academic success personal growth and professional development.
    • Advise and mentor students providing guidance on academic and careerrelated matters.
    • Oversee student recruitment admissions and retention efforts working closely with admissions offices and academic advisors.
  6. Budget and Resource Management:

    • Develop and manage the departmental budget allocating resources effectively to support teaching research and service activities.
    • Identify opportunities for generating additional revenue through grants contracts partnerships and philanthropic support.
    • Ensure the responsible stewardship of departmental resources and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  7. External Relations and Outreach:

    • Represent the Chemistry department to internal and external stakeholders including faculty students alumni industry partners government agencies and the broader community.
    • Cultivate relationships and partnerships with industry government and nonprofit organizations to enhance research collaborations internship opportunities and funding support.
    • Participate in professional organizations conferences and events to promote the visibility and reputation of the department and institution.

Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Substantial academic and research experience with a record of scholarly achievements and leadership in the field.
  • Previous experience in academic administration including program management budget oversight and personnel supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate faculty staff and students.
  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion with demonstrated experience promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the academic community.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards regulatory requirements and best practices in higher education.
  • Strategic thinking analytical problemsolving skills and the ability to make datadriven decisions.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across disciplines and departments.
