Job Description

You will ensure personalised effective and timely clinical care to admitted and referred patients. You will assist the HOD and provide clinical strategic leadership for the successful delivery of admitted and nonadmitted services meeting clinical indicators.

Our 56bed Mental Health unit provides a multidisciplinary service to people who need mental health care. The three wards on our unit include:

  • 25bed adult mental health ward
  • 16bed older adult mental health ward
  • 15bed secure ward


The Position

  • Provides clinical leadership to all caregivers providing care to mental health patients
  • Ensures efficient use of human and physical resources so that the specialty operates within the allocated financial bed and clinic resources.
  • Participates in training and other educational activities ensuring that the specialty meets the accreditation standards of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and the Postgraduate Medical Council of WA
  • Works as a Consultant to provide specialist medical services to mental health patients within a Recovery oriented framework adhering to principles elucidated in the National Framework for Recovery oriented Mental Health Services.
  • Participates as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment. Actively participates in the clinical duties of the Department including the Consultant afterhours and weekend roster providing expert services at the Hospital.
  • Familiarises themselves with their legal requirements of the prevailing Mental Health legislation of the state and operates within its parameters.
  • Ensures completion of discharge summaries coding and reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in the ECT treatment roster.
  • Awareness of customs and community expectations when considering how best to coordinate care for Aboriginal patients.
  • Participates in the oncall rosters for consultants.


Requirements

You will have registration from the Medical Board of Australia and have Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry or equivalent.


You will have demonstrated substantial clinical experience in the management of high acuity patients in a complex hospital environment and ability to implement sustainable change to improve patient safety and reduce unnecessary delays in patient management.

Mandatory qualification/s: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. o Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in Nephrology with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). In general, this will require Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRACP). o Possession of accredited skills in Renal Biopsy. o Possession of procedural skills in Permcath insertion and acute vascular access (Vascath) placement is preferred. o Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CME program with the appropriate bodies
