We are looking for a skilled Acupuncturist to work as a Clinic Supervisor in our brand new teaching clinic opening in central London on a weekday (day to be agreed). You will join a committed and experienced team of seven other supervisors (who are based in York and Cheshire) and you will work directly with students (normally in groups of up tosix) and patients. It is arewarding role with the pleasure of helping students to develop into capableindependent practitioners.

Were a small and friendly independent College based in York City Centre with an excellent reputation for training practitioners in the UK and beyond. We offer a BSc degree in Acupuncture and MScs in Nutrition and Chinese Herbal Medicine. We have run an acupuncture course since 1988 and offered theBSc in Acupuncture since 2008. It is accredited by the British AcupunctureAccreditation Board and validated by the University College of Osteopathy. Were making our courses available to a wider more diverse range of students by establishing clinical teaching facilities in Cheshire and London. These clinics are additional to our wellestablished teaching clinic in York.

The Vacancy:

This role is about providing excellent teaching and supervision to students throughout their threeyear degree course. Availability to cover other days of the week when theres sickness or holiday would be very welcome.

Our ideal candidate:

Essential:

    • Educated to undergraduate or postgraduate degree or equivalent inacupuncture
    • Is a member of the British Acupuncture Council
    • Has at least three years Clinical Practice experience
    • Has the ability to plan manage and organise their own teachingcontributions
    • Is able to resolve and make decisions about student suitabilityin line with professional standards
    • Will contribute to management and administrativeprocesses
    • Works effectively in a team understanding thestrengths and areas of development for others within the team
    • Communicates new and complex information effectively bothverbally and in writing engaging the interest and enthusiasm of the targetaudience
    • Works proactively with colleagues in College
    • Has a positive studentcentred approach
    • Is comfortable using (and familiar with) the Microsoft Office suite of programsespecially Outlook Word and Teams
    • Able to manage a diary and online notekeeping
    • a team worker able to work closely with colleagues and on own initiative
    • flexible attitude to change and responding to urgent need
    • manage time well and meet deadlines
    • manage students with additional needs
    • contribute to the design of course modules curriculum development and new teaching approaches to acupuncture
    • able to use various IT platforms
    • can engage counselling skills and pastoral care where appropriate

    Desirable:

    • Postgrad degree
    • PGCert HE
    • Has five years clinical practice experience
    • Previous experience of managing and delivering educational courses
    • Engagement in research or scholarly activity or in the development of an area of clinical expertise
    • Sufficient knowledge and experience of clinical supervision to be able to teach and supervise at undergraduate and masters level
    • Experience of teaching
    • Experience of Shen Hammer Pulse diagnosis
    • Ability to make appropriate contribution to the Colleges clinical outcomes research
    • Experience of mentoring / supervising practice

    Job Type: Parttime employed.

    Number of hours: 7.5 hours per week.

    Hours of work: 8:45am 5:15pm on the same weekday each week (day to be agreed) with a 1hr unpaid break from 12pm.

    Salary: 38007.80* per year pro rata (this is the fulltime figure based on a fulltime position being 36hrs per week).

    Pay scale: 20* (20.30 per hour) plus overtime as agreed.

    Candidates who live in inner/outer London are entitled to London weighting.

    *The probationary period (first six months in post) is paid at pay scale 19 which is 19.60 per hour / 36698.39 per year pro rata.

    Reporting to: Clinic Director.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the treatment of all patients by students to ensureexcellence in patient care and the safety of patients. If students numbers are low you will be required to treat patients directly.
    • Takeresponsibility for the supervision of students in the teaching clinicproviding a supportive learning environment which enables the development ofcompetent and professional practitioners whilst safeguarding both patients andstudents.
    • Takeresponsibility for student assessments and reviews as agreed with the Clinic Director and maintain accurate student records.
    • Ensureclinical outcomes research data gathered and recorded contribute to otherresearch undertaken in the clinic and promote awareness of the role of researchin relation to clinical practice.
    • Ensurethe smooth running of the clinic and undertake administrative tasks asnecessary including rebooking appointments making appropriate referrals and responding to complaints.
    • Attend clinic supervisors team meetings once per month on a Sunday morning 910am on Microsoft Teams (paid overtime).
    • Attend three inperson meetings per year (Feb June and Oct) on a Sunday 9am1pm held at NCA in York (paid overtime).
    • Attend other meetings and development events as required (paid overtime).
    • Have an understanding of how students are taught and ensure that only the practices that are taught in the college are the ones practiced in the clinic.
    • Provide timely and appropriate support to recent graduates of the college.
    • Report toand liaise with the Clinic Director to ensure the smooth running of theClinical Modules.
    • Assistthe Clinic Director and Course Director in the maintenance ofaccreditation and validation of the course.
    • Participatein the Colleges Performance Review Programme.
    • Provide timely and appropriate support to recent graduates of the college as required
    • Other duties as required.
