We are looking for a Family Medicine Physician to work in Williamsburg VA supporting our client.

Job Description:
Experience working with an acute and chronic SMI adult inpatient population is required. Details for the assignment are provided below:

Assignment:

  • Available to start immediately (pending credentialing).
  • Initial Appointment for 3month assignment with option to extend 3 6month assignment if the position remains unfilled.
  • Fulltime 40 hours a week with assigned office hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch break; no alternative schedules accepted.
  • NOT approved for overtime.
  • No weekends no holidays no oncall duty.
  • Ability to provide cross coverage to include forensic populations as required.
  • Once a month participation in Lunch Coverage Call (12:00 PM 1:00 PM).


Qualifications:

  • 3 more years as a Physician/Practitioner autonomous preferred.
  • Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
  • Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience a plus.
  • Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
  • Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required.


Position Details:

  • Facility Hospitalizations: Acute Adult Inpatient wards (male & female).
  • Facility Demographics: Forensic NGRI Civil Jail Transfer and Geriatric populations.
  • Facility Stay: Short and Longterm length of stay.
    • Caseload varies by ward and assignment (4045)
  • Psychiatry coverage is provided.
  • Full complement of interdisciplinary team members.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for patient care that includes examination evaluation diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
  • Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
  • Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations mental status examination) and entering admission orders.
  • Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
  • Monitors patients progress including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate followup or referrals as needed.
  • Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
  • Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM5 Diagnoses that are valid complete and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
  • Provides coverage to the medical clinic the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.
  • Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication sideeffects and report adverse drug reactions.
  • Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions followup and annual etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies procedures regulatory standards and guidelines.

Eastern State Hospital is seeking BC/BE Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Physician (MD/DO) to assist with locum tenens coverage.
